We do have more choices, but it doesn't go as low as that!!!

Seriously, it's around "four drinks for two cards" nearly everywhere. Regardless of where we go, it's like that. OCCASIONALLY you'll get a venue where the drinks are cheaper, or they are nicer and give you more stamps every now and then but in the end you drink 4 anyway.

Let's say it costs the pub $10 for you to be there, that's $10 PROFIT they need to make, off every person, to break even. Stamping up on one or two cokes is not going to do that.

In fact the reason they let you stamp up like that is because they hope, in good faith, you WILL buy more.

At least that's what I would assume. I doubt they are there to lose money.

The pubs have to make money... to cover staff, NPL charges etc... otherwise it isnt viable.

8 stamps for a coke.... great for players... but the venue is ripping itself off.

but we used to get fully stamped up for a coke, now its gonna cost at least 4 pints to get stamped up.

i may be whingeing here, but i just cant do that on monday night.

Yep, that's a whinge :P

Meals are cheap in the B&G region ? (yes or no)

Actually, at the Old Spot (Gawler) that schnitzel is the size of a fricken horse and would feed 4 of you.

Stop whining and share a meal or something.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Nope...
Try 8 drinks for 2 cards for most drinkers at most venues out this way.

It costs $21 to stamp up the cards
Unless you pre pay then it costs a bit less because your not having to spend another $3 to get that 3rd stamp as I previously mentioned.

I don't want to change venues, I love the Southern venues I play at.

I also don't want to freeload at venues by not spending money and hoping to get mates to stamp me up.

I just believe there has to be a cut off point.

But in reality there will never be a system put in place that makes all the players happy.

8 drinks for two cards ...

But it costs $21 to stamp up the cards?

So ... your maths is wrong or drinks are REALLY cheap down there?

apparently the old spot were complaining that they weren't getting the turnover over the bar to make it worth it.

but they failed to count the meals, pokies, etc etc as well.

the thing i dont get is that every other venue in the region seems to be doing ok, with a similar policy (the kingsford and the willaston actually added a night each)

what are they doing differently?

edit: the rest of this rant is not about the old spot in general, but regional pubs

another thing that you gotta realise city folk, is that on a weeknight, it would be surprising if there were any people at all in the pub, well less than 20 anyway.

so to get this amount of people through the doors on a weeknight is awesome for them. even if they only break even on the bar, they more than make it up on the pokies, meals etc.

moreover, if people go to the pub to play poker, and they like the pub, they are more likely to go for a meal there at another time.

i.e NPL could almost be taken as a loss-leader for the pub.

this is less of a problem in the city pub who would get some sort of crowd there every night of the week
