So the only way to see if there's new messages in a global announcement is to already be browsing some other topic?


Seems wrong to me. Is there not a way to be able to see this from the main board index page?

Announcements don't belong to a section... and if they don't belong to a section, you can't have a section showing the new post.

The idea with them is that they appear EVERYwhere.. so that people see them regardless of what section they go in.

Yes, I managed to actually read what you said about this the first time. That's why I specifically said 'global announcements' instead of just 'stuff in the announcement section'.

My question is... is there a way to see if anything new is in the global announcements, from the main index page?

Example: For some reason there mightn't be any new posts (just pretend people actually do work sometimes), so when browsing the main index you'd not know that a global announcements had been replied to or even if a new one was suddenly there.

Is clicking on 'view new posts', or just randomly clicking a topic from the main index page the only way to go and check this?

No, there isn't .. because they don't belong to a section, and only sections that have new posts will show with unread posts.
