but it dont matter if you agree with me or not its STILL not fair

Fair has nothing to do with it xtal, it is a business decision - if the venue's is fair in the first place, you are happy with what you get. If it isn't fair, don't play there!

If someone else choses to support that venue and management choses to recognise that support, is it really anything to do with you?

It not ALL ABOUT YOU, xtal ;-)

What if a new player enters a venue and see's someone get a full card for just 1 drink, and this new player only gets 1 stamp.

I doubt they'll end up going back there because as a new player they arent getting good service compared to others.

I think venues can do other things for their regular players such as maybe having end of season draws for people who play 7/8 out of the 10 games or something.

I do see your point Des and i do agree, I was just trying to bring up the point that some venues want to reward the people that support there venues

Des, you know something mate, I find its on the smaller venues that appericate the players that support there venues eg clubs, footy clubs, the flying club, the indoor sports club just to name a few
I find the big pubs really dont give a shit about there players

Interesting discussion....

teej - I think you're absolutely right but important things to consider are..

a) is there a list of the stamp system on the bar? If yes, there's nothing wrong with you pointing to the scoreboard as it were.

b) are all the staff doing the same thing or are some just stamping willy nilly (ie making it up as they go). Consistency is very important.

Ron - looking after regulars is very important, but not to the detriment of others. It would definitely look bad for any new player walking in. I think pre-paid drinks is the fairest way to go here, it just needs to be fairly transparent and easy to manage for everyone concerned.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

i guess i might add my 2c worth aswell.

there has been a few good points discussed

but running a venue myself i have chosen to look after regulars that are there every week and drink and support the venue..

how i show them support is to stamp them up when they get there..

most will pre pay there drinks anyway and dont mind doing so.....

i can understand how it might seem unfair to some, but look at it in the long run, if you like the venue, become a regular and spend at the venue then you to could get stamped up when you get there.

im sure everyone would be happy then, but if it was done for everyone then too many people unfortunately would take advantage of it. hence the venues dont make money.

by stamping players up that we know will drink when they get there it also saves us running for stamps every time they come to the bar meaning we can offer better service...

i hope some of that makes sense to someone.

Best stamping system i have seen work where everyone is happy is at my regular venue the Waikerie Club.

Pint/stubbie = 2 stamps
Schooner/softie = 1 stamp
Meal = 3 stamps

This is pretty standard across many venure, but thing that makes this venue different is that they allow pre-paid drinks, which brings a lot of late comers to bring up the numbers each week. these players may not have played otherwise. And really, its not that hard, all they do is write your name on a pad behind the bar.

Secondly, they are consistent with stamps, all the time, every time. Although players might have to spend more than other venues, they ALWAYS know exactly how much they will have to spend in order to get both cards stamped up.

Its more responsible also as i can drink my 4 stubbies over a whole night (i was still drinking my fourth stubbie on the final table tonight).

Problem solved.

Matt, I reckon that's cos my son's aunty works there! :)

Honestly, I don't care how other peoples cards are stamped, as long as mine is done correctly.
