Your best fold?

Postby AceLosesKing » Thu May 15, 2008 12:38 am

So we're always talking about calls we shouldn't have made, how about calls you don't make?

After laying down two strong hands in the past two games it got me thinking. What's your best fold?

Hand 1 (Sunday):
In BB, with about 3k. Blinds 100-200. Dealt QJ suited. UTG raises to 500 (blinds 100-200) there are 3 CALLERS! I thought I HAD to be behind. bennymacaa in SB calls, as do I (so 5 runners total, UTG, no 1, no 2, benny the cunt in SB, me in BB).

Flop: Q 5 3 (suit doesn't matter). benny the cunt is first to act and bets 300, I call. Everyone else folds. So its just heads up, me and benny the cunt.

Turn: 3. benny the cunt bets 1000. I put him on a AQ, or KQ. I figure he has me beat. I don't want to, but I fold.

benny the cunt tells me he had KQ - so I was correct, it was a good fold. I knew for benny the cunt to call the preflop raise he had to have AQ or KQ.

Hand 2 (tonight):
Dealt Q5 off in the BB, have about 3k. Blinds 100-200. No 2 calls, and SB (Chris, a friend) calls. I check.

Flop: Q Q K (suits don't matter). I check. No 2 bets 200 (minimum), Chris calls and I raise to 600. No 2 folds, Chris calls.

Turn: 3. I bet 700. Chris asks me how much I have then raises all in for 1600. 900 more for me to call.

Now that stumped me. Why would he raise all in? There's no flush or straight draw... he had to have a Q - or KK, but he would've raised preflop with cowboys. I know Chris and he's a good player, he doesn't bet on crap, so I figure he must have a Q - he did call my 600.

And if he does, he has my kicker beat.

I fold, and show my Q5. Chris shows QJ.

Phew.

3 months ago, I would've called (and raised) on both those hands. Instantly. Maybe folding hands like those are easy for you guys, but for me, that's the first time I've folded anything like that - it showed me how much I've developed as a poker player over the past few months. Made me happy :D

Any big hands you've had to lay down?

it was a good laydown and a nice read AK.

when you look back at it, your hand2 laydown is really pretty easy with only q5 (in hindsight of course) as you said, what else would he have besides a Q or KK or maybe AA (that would have sucked).

if you had QJ to his AQ or something, that would have been really tough.

i like playing against the better players at the venue, because it means you can actually play poker, rather than just hope the calling station doesnt have something slightly better than you, or hit his 2-pair on the river to smash you.

My best fold:

Scenario: State Final 31 runners remaining, I am short stacked with $5500 in big blind for $1000 leaves me with $4500.

UTG: folds
Pos 1: folds
Pos 2: calls
Pos 3: folds
Dealer: raises to 8k
SB: goes all in for his 4k
BB (me): looks down at pocket 4s...what to do.... I fold
Pos 2: goes all in for 3.5k

cards tables:

Pos 2: A10o
Dealer: 55
SB: 10 5o

So I woulda been behind to start with....

Flop: 10,2,4

Can you believe that carp, I couldn't, wanted to throw a chair or something!! ;)

Turn: 5 -- Awesome lay down......wouldve been smashed

River: 10, giving the dealer a boat.

That turned my tourney around and eventually I got over the line first!!

I was so proud, but really, I didn't want to go home on pkt 4s (and I know that most of you would have folded them anyway!!) but I am still happy.

i like down a straight on the board of A 2 3 4 5, mainly cause after the river the small and big blind both went all in. big blind special 3 6. that ones just off the top of my head im on lunch break at tafe.

oh and i did the same with a flush on the table all small hearts and renee had the K hearts a few weeks back at the kingy.

I've folded boats before. And there has been some big laydowons when I go with my reads, I've folded Cowboys preflop. I've folded my queens full.

As your career progresses the folds get better and those moments when you read is 100% correct are awesome.

Is it me or is this forum de evolving into a benny the cunt Hill Show?
Who can come up with the best one liner?

It seems we have about two weeks of serious and adult conversation, then a month of some really ridiculous stuff.
