If you want players to go for the win, yes
If you want them to keep showing up (especially towards the end of a season), probably not.
What would YOU do??

Well I don't like hearing about this whole "folding into the points" mentality.
And if the point structure is creating this mentality then we need to do something about it.
And I cannot see how changing the point system (for the complete season) affects player numbers towards the end of the season.
I'm not talking drastic point changes but instead a possible widening of the ratios.
1, 0.85, 0.75, etc.....
The win is what every player should be striving for every time they sit down at a table.

Re: What would YOU do??
There's already a bit of a 'well I can't make it so I won't show up' attitude (although to be fair there's plenty of times where they CAN make it if they bothered to check other ppl's results).
I think that widening the ratio would only make that worse.
At the end of the day it's a season and that means an accumulation of points over the whole season and not just on one night.
I know you hate sporting examples so I'll give you one
V8 Supercars... Russell Ingall barely won a race (if at all) the season he was crowned champion. He focused on accumulation of points when he didn't think he could win the race. So they changed the points system to encourage the win..and that's fine because it did it's job. What was also obvious though is that even more of the field clearly had no hope in hell but the reason they were still there was because they had to be.

Re: What would YOU do??
It's bang on topic.
Were you there at the venue I was playing at? Did you see the 'creative play' that was in abundance because it was all new to most players (self included) ?
Horses for courses. For that season at that venue it was definitely a valid strategy.

BigPete33 wrote:Seeing as it was final table bubble, did you know what was happening on the other table? If someone was allin (and especially if you know them to go allin with a wide range of hands) you could have allowed yourself a reasonable amount of time to think about it and/or fold.
You had enough to also fold the SB (unless it was a gun hand obviously) and enjoy a free ride around the table (with the added possibility of seeing a gun hand) by which time someone might well have got knocked out and you would be on FT.
If you drew well you could also be enjoying more of a free ride (with more chance of getitng a gun hand) and being a final table people would probably be getting knocked out before you even had to play a hand. So essentially, you could do nothing and be as high up as maybe 5th with your chip stack being irrelevant.
I can *hear* Garth groaning after reading this... but my response is 'well you might well win that hand and be set (great stuff), or you could lose it and be out of the tourney with NO chances at getting a hand later on.'
If you're still in then you're still in. I prefer to have more chances at something because there's more things that can fall your way.
The perspective I would request you apply to this is that it's not a one off tourney that we play 10 times a season.. it's 10 times we play in a season for the best results overall (per venue).
If it was a one off tourney... hell yeah, I'd probly go for it too.
AWESOME PETE
you may have just changed the Entire Points / FT/ Top 15 place getting /DNP point structure for the entire NPLSA.
To get into a B&G regional final 150 you need to play 10 games and your best 10 games/ average will qualify you into the Finals...
To get a high average you need points get into the venues top 15 [ a non DNP ]. The more points you get the better your average the better you finish needs to be each week . In fact which venue you play ie number of runner is also a major critirea in point collection...
My Game and NPL participation is Identical to your post , interesting to see you revert to the two card /cashing policy now used.
Garth has if I read between the lines already plans to change the current % ratios of the Top 15 current system.... my suggestion weight the top three finishers in the top 20 %
final Table top 50 % and 10-15 places the bottom 50% rating.
With the maturing of Players now playing in the Venues ..it might be prudent to adjust the top 15 points allocation I sure player stratergies and particpation will adapt accordingly.
Mine certainly will.
Craig Lowdnes and those Kelly Bros I'm sure adjust their drives/teams / finishing statergies accordinly Russell is a hero/favourite of mine when he was in a Ford

This has to stop Pete. Once again I totally agree with your previous post and this one as another example. Most us, and I include myself enjoy what we have here with NPL.
Although I was a heavy, a really heavy gambler in the past I am unable to commit our family income any more due to other family commitments.
Points are important to our type of tourney as it's what controls our ability to qualify for the state finals. I can see that Garth is saying we should be using the NPL as a stepping stone for bigger and better fully blown tournaments outside NPL.
For those who are chasing the points all over the CBD each and every night to be number one are certainly in or are capable of playing in a Garth type enviroment and I acknowledge their fortitude in maintaining a positive attitude to reach their goals.
Not everyone can afford to play every night so for the rest of us, well we also have our challenges and goals to achieve. But we also enjoy the company as well as being in the chase for the final table and a victory.
Having said all of the above. I still prefer cash games to the non cash games as I find it more challenging and also rewarding LOL. Funds permitting of course.

Re: What would YOU do??
No matter how the points structure is, you're always going to get players folding down for points.
Its just how it is.
Its just how it is.
