Brice,
Have you read the posts and arguments on here previously.
I myself am pretty sick of venues cancelling games or seasons at the last minute.

If they know they are going to upset there patrons or clientelle by finishing a week earlier than they should then they might be more willing to cancel events the correct way.

There is a lot involved, but I personally do not want to see any more people qualify from a venue that has only ran two weeks, especially one week.

We look after our players as much as possible but it is also the venue's responsibility to ensure that the players are happy at their venue.

The onus should not always be on NPL when venues are "dictating" terms.

This is purely an ops opinion and not one indicative of NPL, but I am just sick of the majority of venues letting players down (be it via short notice of cancellation or not treating them as customers), these venues are a small minority (and I am more than likely going to have my arse kicked for these comments) but I hope you understand where I am coming from.

Garth, I have read all the posts in this thread, not sure if there are other threads with more discussion? (sorry, have been away for a week and not up to date on the latest)

I understand where you are coming from, but if a venue is closing last minute, they are not really going to care about the players that have played as they have no incentive to keep players coming back.

There will always be venues who will close within 1-3 weeks of the season starting and ending. It's not the players fault and they shouldn't be disadvantaged for supporting a venue that closes without hosting more than 3 games that season.

I think David makes a good point that no one will bother visiting a venue with 3 weeks in the season left as there is no state finals spots up for grabs.

I think there will be people who are more disapointed that miss out because of this rule, than people who are disapointed with these people qualifting, afterall it's only additional 5 people for any venue who closes.

Perhaps NPL could charge a venue more if they decide to put out "mid-season", that could solve all these venues closes early or opening early. I guess it's a bit of a tradeoff.

Like you said, this is an ops perspective, and it does not help NPL's business.

Apologies if all these points have been made already, however these are my thoughts on the issue.

My point is no venue should be starting within 4 weeks of a season close.
If a venue starts a season they should be aware that they must maintain 4 weeks of play.

My real pet hate is when a venue cancels on a public holiday or some such and only gives NPL 24 hours notice, or less, and we then have to notify players.

4 weeks is not a hardline rule, we will see how this season pans out. But venues running two weeks or less will definitely be scratched from producing qualifiers.

Instead of having venues run in the last two weeks I would rather give away Finals seats to winners of tourneys in selected events.
We know that venues that open in the last two weeks of a season have proven to be successful but I personally would rather see prizes of this nature offered at long term, loyal venues to build numbers in the last 4 weeks of a season.

I guess from the venues point of view (NOT mine!), by not telling the NPL/General Public that the venues ic losing until that day/week, they are keeping the patrons happy, and they get their money.

Then they cancel, and the patrons are unhappy, but they don't care.
