Monday's Alma game

Postby Ondie J » Tue Jun 03, 2008 1:23 pm

Well. For those of you that attended the Alma last night.. what tha?!?!

Where did all the people come from?!? I think that we were talking in the vacinity of 130+ people turning up for a game last night. It came oh so very close to turning into complete chaos but the NPL staff kicked up a gear to keep everything running smoothly. I really do have to commend the NPL staff for doing a blo00dy great job at keeping everything in order in an emergency due to an unexpected number of players.

With such a huge number of people walking in the doors there was still a huge line to register at the normal start time and, thankfully for all concerned, the games start was pushed back 30 minutes. From there, the game got underway with some amazingly high number of reserves as there were only 9x 10 seater tables available. Let me tell you it was pretty packed in the poker area :) But before you could really think about how many reserves would be constantly coming to the table after the first break with a minimal amount of chips, the calvary arrived with another 3 tables that were promptly set up to accomodate the numbers as well as 6million TD/TA's to help out.

There was also a LOT of need to shuffle players around as the numbers dwindled and I personally think the staff did an excellent job at keeping the tables as full and even as they could. Having sat down for a couple of hands and then having the table broken up many times in succession during the course of the evening, it was done well every time.

I didn't actually get to see the end of the game as, in a hissyfit, after a very poor decision on my part I blew out in 18th I left. And that was around 10 past 11. With the number of chips in play, I'd imagine the game would have gone for close to another hour as there were some imposing towers on the tables ;)

If there was anyone else that was there, and I know there has to be a few of you ;), post your thoughts... good or bad on what you thought.

Last thing... great team effort NPL!

Ondie,

Why can't you put the effort into your reviews that Lizi does.

Buckle up.

<Sobs>

It wasn't a review! It was just a brief recap of events and kudo's to the staff!

That is pretty awesome - a field of 80 the week prior, followed up by a fifty percent increase in numbers last night.

From what I've heard, the night couldn't have been run much smoother given the huge influx of players.

yea all the staff did a good job it was a fun and VERY Expensive night not just for me but other players aswell

Russ and I rocked up at the pub at 620pm last night nice and early cuz we wanted to enjoy dinner there- a bit pricey buts that's alright cuz the Alma has yummy food :D
We ordered 2 chicken snittys at $17 something each... I was hoping that for that price we would get 8 stamps but we only got 6 :?
I had a great time but it would of been better if i didnt have a blocked nose
When i got out there was 3 tables left i did not wait around to see who would win ....
but i tell you what i would of loved to be playing on the final table...
there was ALOT of chips out there it would of been fun to be deep stacked like that ;)

oh yea i would like to add i did feel sorry for the people on the reserve list ... mannnn that list was long ....

I was on the reserve list and I wasn't waiting around too long (maybe 10 mins, was still at the first blind level) as the extra tables arrived fairly quickly and allowed about 30 of us to sit down almost straight away. I think there were still a few people left that had to wait for people to be knocked out, that would have sucked but glad that wasn't me. Funnily enough the table they setup that I was on at the start was around near the "fish" tank

I made it to the last 3 tables and had my A4 beaten by A5 (damn!), was a good night though, will look forward to next week, will be interesting to see how many return if there is no skycity satellite entry and chip sets up for grabs.
