Edit: I just remembered, I had JJ tonight - and lost on it.

Blinds 2000/4000. No 1 limps in, folded around to me, in the SB. BB is all in preflop for 3000.

I raise all in, for 17,000 total. The limper (who has about 30k) folds. Just me and the BB - who shows K 9.

Its not so much playing JJ, its how you play them. You've got to know your table, and figure how much you've got to raise preflop to get them to fold KQ, A7, etc.

If NO overcards hit on the flop, I would put out a big bet. You can't slow play Jacks, as anyone with KQ might check it down and hit their Q on the turn, and then you're quite royally, stuffed.

If an overcard hits on the flop, you should be ok. Unless you know your other players and realise that they're calling with A 10 and that A 8 3 flop is killing you.

If two overcards hit on the flop, its safe to say unless you're pot committed, fold. You can lead out with a feeler bet, but any raise is pretty much key for "yes, I've hit that board."

Jacks may not be my favourite pockets, but I'll take them 7 days a week.

Nevah: Yes, I'll always be playing JJ. They're very high pockets. I would never fold them preflop (if it hasn't been raised). And Kings go very well for me, thankyou

JJ is actually a marginal hand, it's like playing KQ to a raise.

they aren't really high pockets

i think the problem with JJ is that people (myself included) get blinded by the paint and have trouble laying them down.

if an overcard hits and its gonna cost you to play, then they have to be laid down most of the time - which is pretty hard to do.

same with people saying "i always lose with AA"

i have to say that most people that say this are below average NPL players, and they just cant let the aces go when there is a possible straight out there, or 3 hearts with the other player obviously playing the flush draw etc.

in addition to this, everyone remembers the time when their AAKKQQJJ got cracked, but they dont remember the times when they held up for that monster pot!
