Congrats to the NPL on another brilliant effort. This one ranks right up there with the first state final here in SA as the very best of the lot.

I had somewhat of an interesting day :)

Not even 2 hands in and Nathan Butler has run up to the table looking at his watch in expectation of me being knocked out and to top it off I turn around and there's half a dozen staff that I know all standing there grinning at me! Cheeky, cheeky monkeys :)

Everyone at my table started off playing quite tight with very little raising and even less calling of a raise. It's one of the very few times I can recall getting instant respect for a raise.. wasn't what I wanted for a couple of those hands but ya get that. We finally managed to start seeing some decent preflop action not long before the 1st short break where I was dealt KK and had the pleasure of seeing a player go allin before me.. I promptly called and he turned over AJ offsuit and the board gave him nothing so woohoo I doubled up.

Not a lot exciting happened before the 2nd break other than calling a couple of allins and finding myself well in front only to see them get runner runner straight and then runner runner trips and other such loads of bollocks. All was forgiven shortly after though! A shortish stack pushed allin in early position and I had plenty of chips in front of me still, looked down at a suited A4 and decided to take a punt and make the call but so did 2 or 3 other players! Thought I was screwed for sure but the flop was 2 3 5 (omg!) and I was absolutely positive I had everyone smashed so went allin into a dry side pot knowing damn well they were calling me with their high cards and yep, that's exactly what happened. Knocked out 2 players with that hand and severely crippled another and went to the 2nd break with a shade over 16k.

All downhill from there.

Found myself in the SB (BB was 800) and it had folded around to me so I raised it to 3200 (a raise of 2400) with a steal being my only intention. Then the player in the BB tried to raise it another 800. I was dumbfounded. HOW can someone still be thinking that's ok? He was an extremely nice man so I politely explained that he needed to put oh just a bit more in for a re-raise which he promptly did so I folded :) Got severely caught there and it hurt.

Next stupid thing I tried was raising to allin for about 7k from UTG with 22. Got 1 caller who had A Q (I think) and despite me praying to not see an ace or a queen that's exactly what happened and I was left with just enough for a BB and small change. Funnily enough I was BB next and was dealt K Q so chucked the rest in and found another 2 or 3 ppl fairly well invested in the pot themselves. 3 diamonds on the board gave me some hope as I had a Q of diamonds and any diamond would have won it for me but nope, no such luck there either and out I went feeling slightly frustrated at some of my plays but also satisfied with knowing that I went for it and had a red hot go.

Things are looking good already for qualifying for the next one so there's always that silver lining.

I absolutely loved the introduction of antes, and even had a chuckle when players were asking if they had to do that every hand and the look of horror showing on their faces :) It certainly opened the game right up and forced players to go for it a lot more. Magnificent stuff.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Hello fellow Poker Nuts!!

:ugeek:

Well I would just like to say that I found the whole experience of a Poker Final pretty cool. The staff did a great job (thanks to Moose and Tim - my current TDs at Cavan and Modbury Plaza).

The playing was somewhat tighter then the weekly games in most cases, slightly more aggressive with the right cards as well. I found that grinding it out and choosing the correct spots did me well. I made a couple of mistakes here and there, the last one of course knocking me out in 5th place. I also got some luck at the right moments as this game as we know it requires a good mix of skill and luck. However if I had got knocked out early I would still of enjoyed the event.

The only things I thought that may need to be improved was lighting (venue issue) and more details with photos for players to be able to view on the main website.

Cheers

I got rivered out with QJ after going all in after a Q high flop. Was against A10. Ace came on the river.

Enjoyable and well run day.

Thanks.
