maybe you could strongly suggest to berri next time that it would be a good idea for them to hire it, as it would mean that people would hang around longer and spend more money

Where would these miraculous funds appear from to hire these gadgets you speak of?

lol

There are a lot of ideas in this thread that are already planned for a State Final extravaganza towards the end of this year. More details will be available at a much later date.

Also something to contemplate is that we had a skeleton crew of five staff members working for over 20 hours over the whole weekend, the less we have to pack up at the end of two days the better!!!

Garth as you know im a photographer I can get my hands on a camera, tripod and projector if it makes an event better then im all for chipping in matey!

Hi there Bats. I was just thinking that seeing your a camera type guy. How about mounting or suspending a normal video camera over the final table and running an over head cable from there to a plasma screen.

I'm trying to remember if there was a beam or something similar above and in front of the stage area. Obviously there would also need to be a power pack cable running to the camera or something similar to what we have at Parafield Gardens.

Tim hooks his computer up to the power so the batteries aren't in use and that is hooked up to an overhead projector onto a big screen.

Just a thought and plenty of time to even ask if the Berri Resort to do it themselves??? Only an Idea, suggestion.

Overall I think the tourament was very well run. Very professional, and I was lucky enough to limp into the payout structure and earn $80.

Since we are providing constructive feedback, I'd like to see the payout structure be announced well before the event - no one can complain then.

A few on my table were surprised to hear that $5k wasn't the first prize. Many more would be even more surprised that the pool for the main event was only $4k. There was no "$5k deep stack event", the $5k was spread over 2 events.

Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy to earn $80 playing free poker, but I think 1st could get a bigger wack of cash for 2 days solid poker.

I know NPL don't make any cash from this event, and i'm relucant to be negative in any way about a free tourament. Next time I think the venue and any sponsors can chip in more $$. The amount people spent at the venue was amazing, pokies, bar, nightclub, accomodation, food etc, not to mention other money spent in the Berri district.

Maverick - all good points

Just remember, the venue would have NO IDEA how much they would or wouldn't make, gross or profit.. they are going in blind.

So, to put up that much cash, and hope to make a profit - I think it was a good place to start.

you wait till next time, when the NPL can basically guarantee a booked out hotel and 300+ patrons

i reckon there might be more prizemoney on the line next year.

but 5K was still a pretty good start for a stab in the dark

and i played the game for the experience, not the cash, and i think a lot of other people did too

I agree!

lol, just joking

Money was not a motivational factor. Sure it was nice and all, breaking into the top 15 at least you'd get some recognition. I just enjoyed playing against some quality opposition, and trying to appreciate the event. Being able to say I came first in a major NPL event is worth more to me than the prize money that came with it.

It was good to have a few games against you Finno. We were both doing well on the 3rd to last table - that was until we both got moved to Ash's table. For the rest of that night and next day, in a total of approx 3hrs odd I only remember winning 1 hand. Suddendly the tide turned from getting great cards every few hands to slowly slowly bleed from $250k to nothing.

I just couldn't get any decent cards to play with. Any hint of weakness resulted in the chip leaders raising and putting your tourament on the line. In the end, limping into 11th was about all I could do.

Yeah, I was going pretty well on our previous table, I had it well sussed and was picking up a lot of hands and I felt very confident. Then we got moved and I lost momentum. Ash and a couple of others were pretty dominant and shut us out really. Dont think I played a single hand for about an hour. No point calling to see the flop coz you just knew one of those guys would raise.
