Weekday Games

Postby mr_niceguy_1979 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 9:48 am

What does everyone think about NPL running weekday daytime games? Would these get enough runners to make it worthwhile? I notice that Tailem Bend has the only daytime game on Tuesday's with around 20 runners each week

I remember this idea got brought up ages ago, I can't recall the specifics but I'm reasonably sure the response went along the lines of 'it'll really only be the unemployed or the shift workers etc that would be able to play'.

I'm not sure that's enough of a market to justify it?

Even if it was held in the CBD, people don't have long enough for lunch to be able to play.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

If you can do a tourney in an hour, i'd so be there! My lunch hour is boring.

i reckon u could make it a super super super turbo, say 90 minutes max on a friday afternoon

maybe start off with 500 in chips, with cards worth an extra 500, and 12 minute levels throughout the whole tourney, with a 5 min break?

it would definitely be an all-in fest, but it would be fun for a lunchtime

Only having players on site for an hour, or hour and a half, really isn't feasible for the venue. They'd want players there much longer to generate revenue.

true

what about if you could have some sort of meal as well as playing poker?

i.e get people to pre-order baguettes or something that they could conceivably eat while they are playing poker

i agree it isn't really feasible though

and if you have it run with a different structure, you wouldn't be able to offer spots in state finals - which is a big puller of peoples we're told ;-)

The only way I could see it being run in hour spots would be as single table SnGs. Maybe with the winner of each table playing off against the winners in the last week of the season - or something along those lines.

Excatly, Matt. Running games like this would effectively be a side bar to the standard NPL season.

(+ students)

Surely this would provide enough players for a regular format event? Some night venues only get 20+ players. Venue could put on lunch meal deal/coffee/softdrinks for stamps. Have an afternoon/early game double instead of the early/late double. Some old people like me cant handle being out till 3am midweek.
