The Idea has merit.

Selection must be based on the regional leaderboards therefore it would need to be limited to the top 10 in each region.

If a player is represented in the top ten in more than 1 region, that person would represent the region where they are highest placed, players would be promoted to fill the vacant spot.

That would give us 130 players

Here's the dilema with 13 regions how do you get the mechanics to work, my inital thoughts were that all the No1's would start on table 1 and so on.

The maths are almost impossible to work out a fair comp, unless its based on the points freeout method the region with the highest points score wins.

So how do you set up the tables, each player should be ranked according to their best 10 games, table 1 would have the top 10 T2 the next best 10 and so on, or do you random draw player for table position and table no.

Whilst this becomes the complex part of the tournment, how is a vacacted seat filled, as soon as 10 players are knocked out play pauses, a player can only move to the next highest ranked table, ie T1 has 2 players out therefore 2 players from T2 must move to T1 and that would be place for place, and so on
42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

thats starting to get too complicated for what its worth

i personally think that each region should be able to enter multiple teams if they wish - the whole point about a tournament like this would be to create region rivalries, and this would be done however the format, as long as the players all come from a certain region

Yep, it would be just the same as a teams event, but instead of teams naming themselves, you would represent Barossa & Gawler 1, or Riverland 3.

The rest is run as usual.

Yeah pretty much.... the 'how' isn't our prob as yet but the 'do we want one?' is what's being looked at for now.

Seems to be a fair bit of support for it so far, I know Nathan is keen on the idea after seeing him last night at the Kentish Arms.

Regional rivalries (friendly of course) would add so much more to the already good poker experience.

Big Pete me tinks you are wrong !

The only way the event can go ahead is if the format truly represents the better players in each region, simply someone selecting a team or a regional area manager selecting a team is unacceptable.

Its pretty much accepted that we should have a teams event.

Now is the time for sugestions about the format and how a winner is decided.

NPL needs to decide if this go's ahead, the number of players in each team and a venue.

Gundog, methinks you are wrong. The teams event is not meant to be exclusionary.

beat me to it scott

the first thing that i would say, is that the regional leaderboard definitely DOES NOT represent the best players in the region, not by a very long shot.

lets say, for arguments sake that someone flukes a win in a big, one-off tourney, lets say its the night before some other big 2 day tourney, which gives him a lot of points.

if that person didnt fluke this win, then this person would in fact be 18th on the leaderboard of this persons region, instead of 2nd.

i bet this person would then have a very different view on who should be allowed to play in such a tournament.
