I love womens tennis. Hottie or not, if the skill level is there, I'm all for it. Case in point: Casey Dellacqua, Australian Open 2008.

as far as skill level goes AK, if you have a choice of watching federer and nadaal, or a womens game that doesn't include sharapova or ana ivanovic, what would you choose?

i bet 99% of people would choose the mens game, and this is my point

noone is doubting that the women are skillfull, as they obvously are, and i enjoy watching womens tennis as well, as i like tennis as a sport

but if i had a choice, i would be watching mens tennis any day of the week. i can always google sharapova afterwards :D

I've got to agree with you there benny the cunt - I suspect it has something to do with the competition. More male players (in most sports), therefore they need to practice harder, hit the gym harder, eat better and do more cardio to get to the top.

You can only beat those with whom you are presented, so this isn't really a dig at female sports people, but you just don't get the same level of sheer genius in female sports as you do in some mens sport.

I tend to disagree that men's tennis is better to watch. Because, outside the top 3, not many men will go late into a tourney. It's pretty lopsided. Nadal, Federer, Djokovic win most big tourneys.

But in the women's, you get a better contest. Any girl can win on their day. Longer rallies.

up until the williams sisters revolutionised womens tennis by playing a power game, it was dominated by steffi graf, martina hingis, seles and co, much more than what the mens game is doing now (with the exception of federer, he is just a once in a lifetime player)

womens tennis was completely lopsided, mens tennis is at the moment, it goes in cycles

Nah, good point. I am only thinking nowadays. Gotta love the Agassi/Sampras/Rafter/etc days & battles.

My point is more that the quality goes far deeper into the men's field than it does in the women's. You actually get players from outside the top 5 who make runs at tournaments ('lil Leyton excluded). The players in the top 100 for men are extremely fit. Casey D, in the 2007 Australian open had "flab" all thru her midriff - you just would not get that with male players.

i really find tennis hard to watch, i love playing it, all summer go out at least once a week for a hit but bores me to death, esp the 5 set matches

think marcos bagdhatis at the australian open in 2007 (6?), who was ranked in the 60s i think at the time, and made the final.

its much rarer that you get this happening in womens tennis, although the top 30 or so is much more even than it used to be.

Flawed argument. You could say the same thing for Williams vs Sharapova two unknown and unranked male players.
