Re: Prize packs for 2009
I guess it all comes down to who NPL are wanting to target with the prizes.
My guess is, whilst they'd like to keep us NPL whores happy, they are more interested in giving the occasional player a thrill of winning something when they get in the top 3. That way, said occasional player is more likely to come back?
And I don't mind your idea of winner take all the state finals either, Des
I know I'm probably not in the majority there, but 2nd really is 1st loser

I'm with Des, you gotta give 2nd a prize. Very cheap not to.

Re: Prize packs for 2009
I am writing in regard to an idea I had about the final table tokens. This
is only a rough outline and of course the details would need to be worked
out in more detail but I was thinking that these tokens could effectively
replace prize packs
For example if instead of prize packs we gave out tokens at the final
table somewhere along the lines of thefollowing:
1st place 5 tokens
2nd place 4 tokens
3rd place 3 tokens
4th-6th 2 tokens
7th-9th 1 token
These tokens would then be redeemable for a different range of prizes
which would be available for purchase at the state final. Players can save
their tokens over the season and/or pool them with family/friends for
larger prizes or redeem them for the usual keyrings etc. These prizes could
include jackets, shirts, beenies, chipsets and even sky city buy ins. We
would still need to carry a small stock of prize packs for those players
that want instant prizes.

So make everything winner take all and you watch how many people will play. Kinda stupid isn't it dont you think?
Name any internation tournament where it is winner take all (excepting Poker after Dark). It isn't. People want to get something back for playing well.
Get back on topic. What kinda prizes do you want?

i think you are right bacon, the prizes aren't really intended for people that already have 3 or more of everything - its for the person that only plays once in a blue moon, that might come and play twice in a blue moon because of the prizes. i know out our way, some of the once a week lower than average standard players have their FT chips on their table as a badge of honour. and good on them for this.

i reckon you would change your tune if you were the one that actually came second

i was trying to think of something like this, but couldn't quite work out how it would go, but this is a SICK idea.
then people have the option of saving over multiple seasons to get something good, like a chipset or something, or get a quick and easy prize then and there.
the problem i see is, it doesn't exactly work for economies of scale if you offer a very big range of prizes.
but i reckon the idea is awesome

Dammit Alex, you beat me to it... I was going to post up about the FT Chips and possibly do something like this.
It would be awesome if something like this could happen.

I've heard something like this is happening. Our FT chips will be used at the end of the season - possibly for a deepstack buy in, 1 chip is $1000, 20 chips max.

There is a possibility of the new FT chips being redeemable at a later date for something, possibly tournament oriented; so hold on to them, people.
Don't throw them across car parks like me ...
