I don't know who is better ..
Mind you, it sucks to say one because you're almost saying the other is no good, which obviously isn't the case.

Re: LIGHTNING BOLT IN THE 200M
Running - getting from point A to point B in the shortest time possible.
Swimming - getting from point A to point B in the water 4 different ways.
They have the 100m in Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke(the most awesomely named event of all-time) and butterfly.
IMO that is the same as having a 100 metre foot race running sideways or running backwards. I mean what is the point?
I could beat Phelps from point A to point B in the pool if he swam breaststroke and I swam freestyle. So whats the point of swimmers saying Ï can beat you over 100m in the pool but only if we swim like butterflies?
Freestyle should be the only swimming style, all the rest are like a broken pencil - pointless
Then again, athletics has the walk - OMFG! - dont get me started on this event!
They look like I do if i need a sh it real bad and am on my way to the dunny.

As my mate says "Fast walking? If I wanted to get there faster, I'd freaking run"
And someone else
Having a race for who can walk the fastest is like having a competition on who can whisper the loudest
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

I bet he could beat you in any style he chose (although i am not sure of your swimming prowess)
but you are right though, it is a bit silly having lots of different strokes. i wonder how these strokes originated, and how these prevailed over other strokes? why not dog paddle in the olympics?

Re: LIGHTNING BOLT IN THE 200M
I've not checked this or anything, so apologies in advance if it's incorrect...
The guy who Phelps passed as having won the most gold medals at a single Olympics is Mark Spitz who had 7 gold medals... also for swimming.
I think it's "easier" to compete in multiple swimming events as there's just so many more available to choose from. You can swim different kinds of stroke at varying distances. Several combinations available.
How many different ways can someone run? Very few in comparison, pretty much only the distance varies.
Phelps was awesome, no doubt about it. I rate Bolt's efforts in winning the sprint double as slightly better largely due to the limited choiuces he has in comparison ie "you have 2 events and that's it".
P.S. Sucked in to the yank who came 2nd and was carrying on like a pork chop even though he was disqualified.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: LIGHTNING BOLT IN THE 200M
Correct about Mark Spitz Pete, he won 7 gold medals at the 1972 Munich Olympics, the same Olympics infamous for a palestinian terrosrist attack on a group of israeli athletes.
BUT how fast could have Spitz have swum without the porno moustach
http://www.theonion.com/content/files/i ... -Spitz.jpg
Now THAT is GOLD many more than 7 times over.
(actually, didn't phelps have a crappy looking mo during olympic trials. was that a preminition or homage to the greatest of great porno mo's)
http://ballhype.com/story/michael_phelp ... n_beijing/
Maybe its some kind of conspiracy.....
(wow that turned from a serious post about terrorism to porno mo's)

Re: LIGHTNING BOLT IN THE 200M
Correct there Macca, it was a homage to Spitz.
Phelps was telling a story about how Spitz had told everyone at the Munich games the reason for the mo.
He said the 'tach created drag around his mouth allowing him to breathe easier (joshing of course) and then he reckons the entire Russian mens swimming team had mo's within the next few months!

Just for thought, can you imagine this from "special" Bruce:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, don't go away, because after the break, we're bringing you live, the Final........of the mens 100 metre walk!"

Walking is the only sport where they allow you to cheat twice, but disqualify you if you cheat for a third time.
Shows how ridiculous it is.

Re: LIGHTNING BOLT IN THE 200M
Definitely rate Bolt's performance above Phelps, as has been said earlier there were more chances for Phelps in the swimming where as Bolt only had 2 chances, and he won them both convincingly and in world record time. Bolt smashed all the other top runners in the world in both the 100m and 200m, and the world record he broke for the 200m has stood since 1996 which shows just how good he is, and how hard it is to break world records in athletics compared to swimming. Phelps' performance is obviously still quite brilliant but I rate Bolt's as better. Bolt is also only aged 22 in events that athlete's usually don't peak at till they are a little older so will be interesting to see how he goes as his body matures even more.
