is it acceptable for a player not involved in a hand to call time? i too think it is poor etiquette to take over 2 minutes to make a decision, especially if it is on a matter like calling the small blind or a min raise

I don't think they can (but I'm not 100% sure).

I prefer the 'player not in the hand can shut the hell up' option.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

NPL RULE BOOK :

"12. In all NPL tournaments, the tournament host has the right to place a maximum time limit for taking action on your hand. The clock may be put on someone by the tournament host, if a player requests it or if the host deems it necessary. If the clock is put on you when you are facing a bet, you will have one additional minute to act on your hand. You will have a ten-second warning, after which your hand is dead if you have not acted. If a player has not taken action within a reasonable timeframe (i.e. no more than 2 minutes.) the clock can be called which will result in them having 30 seconds to make a decision."

Anybody dealt into the hand can request time.

It is the perogative of the TD to enforce this call as he/shes sees fair.

BUT

sometimes people (including both of you i have to say) go into the tank for 30 seconds or a minute just to complete the small blind, or when facing a min bet from another player.

this is unacceptable in my opinion, and just slows the game down too much for a turbo format. if it takes this long to make a decision, it usually means you should have folded a minute ago - and usually this is the decision that is made.

having said that, you two are by no means the worst - and i don't think i have been a tool when i have called time on you in the past.

some people take a lot longer than you guys though.

I agree that there have been moments where I have taken entirely too long (I don't think any of these were in relation to min bets or completing from the SB, however. I cannot recall a single situation wherein I even approached an unreasonable timeframe for those actions, to be honest), and this does in fact have an impact in a turbo format such as NPL - and in these cases, by all means, do what you have to to speed things up. However there is a way to achieve that without being obnoxious or offensive. And no, you haven't been a tool in this regard - most people haven't, it's just something that comes up rarely that irritates me, and figured it would be appropriate to mention in an ettiquite thread. Didn't mean a mass derail in regards to time calling :P.

So.... 1 minute or 30 seconds... which one actually is it?
