Hi Guys,
Welcome to another brilliant year of NPL poker.
Well it's time to make you aware of several changes to this seasons format.
First of all we are now playing 5 ten week seasons a year. We will be giving away over half a million dollars in cash and prizes throughout 2008.
This Season's state final will be worth $20,000 in cash or prizes, a breakdown of the prize structure should appear on the NPL website in the upcoming weeks and once I know more I will post here.
The State Leader Board will now have a $5000 prize pool with the breakdown to occur as follows:
State Leader Board - $5,000
1st - $2000
2nd - $1000
3rd - $500
4th - $400
5th - $300
6th - $250
7th - $200
8th - $150
9th - $100
10th - $100
To qualify for the state leader board you need only play 15 games now and again it will be the best 15 games average that caused so much debate and consternation last year.
All of our country regions will also have a cash prize on offer for regional leader boards and for a regional final. The prizes on offer are the following:
Bar/Gaw $2000
Mid North $3000
Riverland $2000
South East $1000
Yorke Peninsula $1000
Edited by Garth, I have just being told that the Eyre peninsula will not be running with this format for this season until we sign a couple of more venues, I apologize for misleading any forum members from that region. All I ask for your is your patience as we will be running something like this next season.
So that's the prizes so far. But don't worry loyal supporters of the NPL in Adelaide, there are some big things in the pipeline for you guys. Other promotions will and do exist but I cannot release details at this time.
You might have also noticed the updated prize packs. Who likes the new hats? Card Protectors? Anyone dislike anything? Trophy scheme will change again in Season 3 more than likely.
And last but not least the new NPL rule book. I have attached it here for anyone interested in downloading it or printing a copy of their own off. Bear in mind this is not the final draft, that will be available within the fortnight but it is 99% completed and will be the one all staff will be using over the following weeks.
Thanks to all for your support in 2007 and now here's to an even bigger and more successful 2008. Good Luck all! May all your flops be the nuts!

The new caps are a great improvement over the older ones and should I be lucky enough to win one I might actually wear it when I'm not intoxicated
The rounded trophy is also very nice looking.
State & regional leaderboard prize pools?
NICE move... and nice offerings. Looking forward to hear about future events as well.
And, of course, the rulebook and ettiquete guide is a great informative tool. I urge everyone to read through it at least once!

what happened to the column-style trophies with the bubble writing in them? i thought they were better than this season's one.
other than that, the prizes look very good.
for the regional leaderboard, is that a winner take all prize, or is it top 10 or something?

It won't be winner take all, it will be dispersed across the top 10 of the regional leaderboard and also in a regional final.
The question I have for a lot of players:
If we say that we have a state final worth $20,000 in cash or regional final worth $1000 in cash, would you (as players) like to see a correct tournament payout structure? i.e: 500 person state final, $20,000 in cash for prizes, in a correct payout structure top 50 would be paid on the following scale:
1st 25% $5,000
2nd 15.4% $3,080
3rd 10.5% $2,100
4th 7% $1,400
5th 5.5% $1,100
6th 4.5% $900
7th 3.5% $700
8th 2.5% $500
9th 1.6% $320
10th - 13th 1.25% $250
14th - 18th 0.95% $190
19th - 27th 0.70% $140
28th - 50th 0.45% $90
What do you all think?

I know the correct structure would be 50 places paid (i.e. 10% of total runners) but the last $25 would only get $90 which seems a little un-exciting (is that a word? lol)
How bout top 25 get cash prizes. 26-50 get an NPL prize pack (Cap, card protector, bottle opener)?
Just throwing an idea out there.
I just wanna win a poker table dammit!

i think that 90 bucks is not really worth the effort. A prize pack for the lower place getters would be a good idea.
does this also mean that there are not going to be any international tournament packages offered this year? Maybe a tournament at the end of the year where the top 20 in each state final play off for a big prize?

That prize structure would replace the current one?
I kind of like the idea of a first prize being a trip to an 'exotic location' to take part in a poker tournament.

I was wondering what would happen after the vic nationals had happened.... yeah $90 does seem a bit poo, but at the same time I like the idea of a decent prize pool spread.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

QUESTION ONE--
HOW MANY STATELEADERS -TOP 50 ARE IN THE REGIONALS ??.
pesonally I like the idea of prize allocations to each region .
it reconizes the issue of smaller venues and distance travelled to get to another venue and playing on other days.
It is easy for cityites to play every day of the week at a different venue and even twice in one day at another venue. thus gaining points and an average into the top 50 leaders board.
In a 10 week season 15 games for your average is a reasonable calculation. 25 games in a longer season was a fair calculation also
$ 2000-00 divided say betweem a top 10 or 15 or even 20 on the regional leaders is also reasonable
..The regional finals initiative is a excellent progression and prizes/monies /qualification into other games / State finals could be also considered as a reward within each region.
Participation at venues within in the regional should / will increase with the 'carrot of dollars" at the end . in a revenue earning capacity $2000-00 a regional should be easily covered by the increased participation created.
GO GROW NPL.
