Tips and Strategies: The New Laptop.

With all the minutes of free time i have, i am going to start taking my poker a little seriously. Have to improve my game so that Garth isn't the big winner out of us.

Having made a purchase over the weekend of a 2nd laptop. 1st one has a broken hinge, and is going to be used as my media laptop (downloads,movies,e.t.c).

So at the moment, i am thinking what i am going to do to start trying to make some dollars out of Poker.

The first 3 steps i am taking:

1. Data Software.
Looking at pokertracker to see where i need to plug my leaks and fix everything up. But also as it records my hands. Will be good to post in the hand discussion forums to get a few ideas of how other people will play it out.

As this is my first time using pokertracker, i will be writing my thoughts and uses for it. Especially seeing how the PAhud works into everything.

Pokerstove might also be an option to look at equity and hand ranges, mainly as an idea of certain typical players (LAG, TAG, WP) against some holdings.

2. New Site.
Mainly the reason i am going to be doing this is for a rakeback deal, so that i can get money back even when i am losing. But also to see what effect the rake has on overall profit.

For personal reasons, i am not going to name the site, or my username. Just in case there is some spiteful people that want to try and derail this little experiment.

3. Pre Playing stuff.
Most of it is already in the head, but using pokerstove and reviewing hands, i will probably start playing my position a hell of a lot better than what i use to.

Obviously once i have this set up organised, bankroll and limits will be listed.

For the record, i am an absolutely crap cash game player, medium tournament player. So i am expecting a lot of heartache out of this.

Since i do have Mod Powers. Don't piss me off in this topic. .
It might help a few people, then again a few people might be able to help me out. But it will give some people a few ideas in regards to steps of how things go.

It will probably start slowly. But hopefully once the momentum is there. Think of this as my own personal ferguson challenge.

Well i played blackjack this weekend. Did that with a $70 hand.

Ever want to play 2.50/5 NLHE, go to treasury. between 3 to 7 players Each hand. hardly any preflop raising. Wish i had saved some money instead of short stacking it, and on a Frozen Deck.

Ok, Quick update

Couldn't get Rakeback on the site, so tried to get a semi decent bonus offer.

Downloaded Pokertracker 3, using a clean database so this is all going to be from scratch. Could datamine but just not worth the hassle.

Also downloaded pokerstove, great little thing. Type in 18% shows the 18% of hands that you can play.

Initial deposit will start at 100. Which will give me 20 buy in's of $5. Which means my initial levels will be 2c/5c. Probably going to be flipping between NL and Limit Holdem to start off with, Just to get some hands into pokertracker.

If i multitable. 4 Max tables. Then i will be shortstacking at $2.50 at the 2c/5c levels.

Will probably give some more info at the end of the week, maybe with a graph also.

Your going to find it difficult to build any sort of roll or make any real profit playing at 2c/5c.

At those micro stakes there is very little in the way of skill been displayed, and we all know you can't rely on luck to do the job for you.

See how you go anyway.

I am willing to re stake so you can at least start at 50/1 or 1/2.

I have only just started playing internet poker in the last 4 days and so i intend to try to start out with the right intentions and to improve my self and my bankroll
(started with a $200 bankroll, my wife nearly killed me when she saw the credit card statment so i will have to make this one last a long time)

Poker tracker sounds good, is it free or does it come at a price

I also agree with Garth on the micro limit games, I have only put a few hours in so far but the first thing you notice is how wild the play is, the cheaper the buy in or hand cost

The decision making is very wild, the starting hands are extreemly wild and there is a definate "F@#$ It its only a few bucks" attitude on a lot of the decisons

I found even a slight increase in the $ level spent increased the skill of the players you play against.

I started playing online poker for money a few months back. Put $50 into a certain site, got it up to $100, then basically lost it all - never rebought though! Proud of that. Was down to $1.40 at one point, currently I'm sitting at $19 - been grinding my way up in the $2 sngs, making the cash a fair bit. A lot of that burnt cash was me playing $2, $3 and $5 tournys and not cashing. However, I did lose $25 in one ring game hand - the worst beat I've ever taken.

6 handed, 10c/25c table. I have JJ in the BB. We are a few hands in and I have bought in for $25.

UTG raises to 75c, 3 callers. I pop it up to $3.50. All 3 call.

Flop: . The pot is already around $12, I decide to push all in (first to act) for $20ish and take it right here (not my best move, but I have a problem with pockets over the board).

Folds around to last to act. He has $22. He calls my $20. Shows . NO FLUSH DRAW, NO DRAWS WHATSOEVER, JUST K HIGH.
