So all the talk last week regarding what prizes the npl should have for the winners etc got me thinking.
There is no real prize for those players that finish a NPL season in first apart from a ticket to the finals, which i dont belive properly lauds the acheivement of that player each season
So at the Waikerie club we came up with an idea
To have a premiership sheild like trophy for the wall of the Waikerie club
to display the names of each seasons winner.
The Waikerie Club NPL Player of the Season Trophy
for eg- 2008 season 1 -- XXXXX
Back dated to cover all the season winners so far, and cover all future winners.
I presented this idea the Waikerie Club who argreed to cover the costs of engraving each season and the general upkeep of the trophy if we raised the money for the trophy itself, and i thank the Waikerie Club for its support of the NPL and the players it looks after.
Last week I presented this idea to our players during the night and passed a hat around asking for contributions from those players who thought this was a good idea, no obligations some contributed some didnt no worries.
We were very sucsessfull and Raised $160 on the spot, more than enough for a nice trophy, so i thank the waikerie players for there generosity, One player even put a $20 note in the pot.
So in the next few weeks you should be able to find a realy nice trophy on the wall of the Waikerie club, with all the season winners we have had so far.
I recon this is a great idea to formally recognise each venues best and fairest from each season, and creates a little bit of sporting club like history i think.
