I've got a lot of respect for ANY form of motor racing.

It's really not easy at all, and SOOO many things have to be considered.

I used to do quite a bit of online racing (LFS) in a couple of different leagues... raced in some enduro events and I have to say I never thought I'd be so mentally and physically knackered just from sitting on my fat arse in front of the pc.

I have the Logitech G25 and I crank the force feedback right up.

For those not in the know, LFS is the best as far as actual simulation goes... you really do have to pay a lot of attention to a bazillion different things and it can be pretty full on.

I would spend HOURS building and testing the qualifying and race setups for each weekly race.

Depends what the race was...

End of season winner got a fairly decent trophy cos one of the guys racing was a trophy maker

He'd sometimes do them for large one off events like the enduros too.

Laptimes went into the worldwide database so you'd know if someone just broke the WR or something.

Had some crazy fast guys to race against, can't have been human.

I'm not a car racing fan at all, or a driving one for that matter, but I was almost stirred to get involved when I saw Pete and another mate racing a couple of times. It *IS* that involved and I just like having to micro manage and focus of a ton of different things at once. At the end of the day though, I decided to let the dust remain where it was on the steering wheel at home.


If you're a car racing fanatic and like pc games, then give it a look in. Quite good and they've also got some good forums

Bacon, you obviously have no idea how athletic those guys need to be to concentrate on doing what they do at speed for hours on end.

Moreso I don't care.

My mate is a former Formula 3 Champion (2002), and runner-up in 2003 in Formula 4000... and he gets tired like the rest of us at football training.

formula 3 and formula 4000 are amateur categories, am i right in saying this? and the races would usually only go for half an hour max?

professional drivers like in touring cars or formula one are most definitely in peak physical condition, especially when endurance races are concerned.

the temperature in the cars is well over 50 degrees on a 25 degree day, and if you get a stinker like clipsal a few years back, it was 65+ degrees inside the car. and these drivers are expected to drive in these conditions for at least 2-3 hours.

Both Troy and benny the cunt are right on the money regarding the physical demand on these guys. And for Bacon to compare it to his mate and soccer training is somewhat off the mark.

You can't compare a 10 lap race in an light weight open wheeler to a professional touring car driver in an endurance race.

I would like to take this moment to say that I have nothing against anyone who plays or is involved with their chosen sport. But lets face it, it would be so hard to compare non professional weekend racer or Amatuer Soccer with that of a Professional Touring Car Driver.

For those budding critics who read things slightly different on the odd occasion the following comments regarding my slant on soccer is purely meant to create some humour nothing personal just some funny observations on my part.

And as for amatuer soccer training. How do you train or practice for the following events?

Practising for a scoreless win

The art of running around with your shirt over your head

The ability of rolling on the ground for maximum effects after being tripped

The art of being a goal keeper flying through the air in the wrong direction and then performing a mutiple rolls for good effects

And now finally, what to do if someone happens to score a goal during the game or in the closing seconds of the game!!!

Firstly, the scorer must run around the field in no particular set pattern with his shirt over his head and blessing himself along the way.

Mean while his team mates set off running around after the scorer who has his shirt over his head. I really think this is for personal protection from the kisses about to be bestowed upon him from him fellow team mates.

Once caught, it's fashionable to pile on top of each other hugging, kissing, dry bunting and even mass crying is acceptable.

In the mean time the other team are devastated!!!!

Some are sobbing their little hearts out and the poor goaly is still rolling on the ground saying why me, why was I picked as the goaly this week??

However, if you asked me "Did I watch and cheer every goal the Reds got for a 3 zip win last Wednesday nite"? I'd have say YES I did and I thouroughly enjoyed it, because I support anything that's "US AGAINST THE OTHERS".
