A lot will depend on if tickets are available.

There will be a massive interest in this. You'd expect the club will organise an official do for those who couldn't get tickets.

The cas could do worse things than getting the big screen in the Marble Hall going for it.

Have just read that "the government" might be looking at additional temporary seating for Hindmarsh Stadium.

I don't know if it's actually do-able but at this point in time I've heard worse ideas!

I reckon the corners could do with some seating, even if just to keep the wind out. That'd have to add another 2 thousand seats surely?

I suppose ideally Hindmarsh should seat about 30+ thou but the footprint is just too small.

New super duper stadium in the CBD anyone?
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Its been suggested pete but since claimed as undoable. There is simply not enough temporary seating available apparently. Gee maybe some foresight wouldnt have gone astray.

You will be astonished to know that not one representative from the government was at hindmarsh for the home leg of the semi-final. The reds are doing our state proud and get absaloutely no support from our government, or the FFA for that matter.

Sorry to turn this political, but i thought that 'media mike' would love to get his mug on telly. He cant get much else right, especially education funding, but thats another story.

Maybe we will have to start a politics thread.

The reds are a commercial entity in the business of generating $$, and as such, they need to consider seating arrangements themselves - not rely on big brother to hold their little hands.

If the government spent less time propping up sporting infrastructure/events which are meant to turn a profit, such as pumping $100M into that stupid stadium, there might just be more where it is needed - ie. education funding :D

I'm all for your idea of a politics thread at some point too!

rcon, sporting clubs are there to generate a profit, yes, but there are often much bigger reasons for helping out clubs financially. one of the main reasons is the effect that spending money at the top level has on the grass roots sport

since the inception of the a-league and the recent world cup, soccer has boomed in australia. it is definitely in the state governments interests that this does not become a flash in the pan

increased participation in sport is always a good thing for society, especially with the "obesity epidemic"

Mafau is banned from any political discussion, he's a commie :P

I do remember back in the day when there was a big whinge about the govt spending all that money on the west grandstand at Hindmarsh, I think it had a fair bit to do with cost blowouts as well.

It was labelled a 'white elephant'.

Different story now though, it's getting decent crowds on a fairly regular basis and the venture into the ACL has only added to that.
If the govt knew at the time that we'd be playing in an international competition I think they'd have thrown even more money into it for the whole exposure and tourist dollar thing.

Spending money to make money.

I see that Melbourne's coach has offered to assist with "intelligence" on Gamba seeing as they've played them twice already.

I cannot stand Melbourne Victory (not even just a tiny bit) but that is indeed a very sporting gesture.

I hear what you are saying, I just don't agree with it. I'd much rather they took less of my money in the first place, and allowed me to spending it supporting clubs of my choosing. Governments picking winners doesn't really have a history of getting much right.

Yeah, I voted for him too, but I won't be voting labor again (which leaves me in a pickle, 'cause I don't think I could vote lib either), not after that recent pokies and plasma package :( THAT IS MY MONEY! ;) Oh, and the FHOG increase that was designed to prop up housing prices - what happened to the talk of making housing more affordable?

GRRR!
