Highlander....ideas??

Postby Cruella » Fri Nov 21, 2008 7:34 pm

The new management at the Highlander have asked me what the players would like to have promoted there....eg prizes, nights/days play....special promos....what would get you there??
All ideas welcome as I'll be taking them all straight to the numero uno..

So......as a starting point.....we've already ascertained that $100 cash for 1st and $50 for second is a good starting point rather than $50 bar voucher and $25 voucher for second....the new manager also expressed an idea where players that come every week might be rewarded in some way....

Personally I'd love to start playing at the Highlander again, but my preferred time to play is Sunday night. That alone would get me coming along, particularly with the TTG closing....
Check out my ample flop....

sunday days used to be a great time, not many other venues have a tournament at that time, really enjoyed it up there, great to relax with direct sunlight coming in

if promoted with a prize i could see 50 runners + there

Have played there several times myself, work doesn't permit it as often anymore but as it was I may not have returned anyway.

One thing sorely missing was ANY kind of promotion at all by the venue. You'd barely know they even had poker there.

There used to be 60+ runners on a regular basis in the early days and as you can see they've all dropped off largely I think to the complete lack of self promotion.

It's got a nice poker area and has a lot in it's favour... just needs a rocket up the bum! Good to hear that management is being proactive.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Thanks for all the suggestions so far everyone......I totally agree with everything raised so far.....especially about playing on Sundays and more promotion needed......I agree that with promo and cash prizes we would easily get back to the 6/7 table turn up again and then hopefully more....the new manager Jason is reading this thread for ideas.....keep em coming....he's really keen to make this work...

It time to think outside the box a little, get NPL management, the TD and venue to try something a little different.

Instead of the standard NPL game week in week out, how would a rotation of games go like,

Weeks 1,4,7 & 10 Standard NPL Game 100/50 prizes

Weeks 2,5 & 8 Bounty Game $2 bounty on each player and whats left over is the winners bonus.

Weeks 3,6 & 9 Double Starting Stack Game, all players start with 2000.

Instead of the bad beat table, have a 6 or 8 player hard luck table with the winner taking a meal voucher or drink card (5 schooners) with no player returning to the main game.

Pehaps the venue could trial their venue as a points freeze out 1 point for every player you beat ie. 1st out 0 2nd out 1 etc etc, with the eventual winner getting max points plus 10, and for regional and state leaderboards normal points apply.

As for venue vouchers it depends how the venue allows you to use them, in my region its a mix of the best and the worst, the worst the winner VV must be used in the bottle shop and 2nd for meals only, the best my home venue the allow you to use the VV for meals and drinks until it used up even if it takes a couple of weeks, and you also get stamps when you use them.

To kepp the players returning a good TD is important and a fair stamping policy plus pre buy drinks helps and a good value for money menu is a winner.

ok this is my plan for the highlander

same time as it used to be, Sunday 1pm rego for a 2pm start

stamping policy was fine, pint or spirit 2 stamps

1st prize - $100 + the regular prize packs
2nd - $50 venue and drink voucher
3rd - bottle of wine

bounty prize - each week have 2 bounty players, when these players are knocked out some sort of prize is awarded, change this prize everyweek

Advertising, im not too sure if you already had this but one of those NPL signs is needed facing out to North East Rd, lots of cars drive past there in peak hour traffic

Theres not much else that can be done really imo, i dont agree one bit with what gundog suggested about changing the format, it needs to be fair throughout the season so people are competing for that top 5 up until the last week
