Totally agree with a return to the Sunday afternoon time slot.
The upstairs poker area, on a sunny Sunday arvo, was awesome.

Agree Scott.
Venues need to look at what makes them good as a venue in general, and focus on that.
The upstairs area was nice and classy, very open and the balcony was a nice area to have a break in (read: smoke).
Sunday afternoon matched the atmosphere of the venue.

Whats not fair about my proposed ideas, no one is disadvantaged by playing a few different formats the game is still No Limit Texas Holdem, and points are still allocated on finishing results, the idea would only work when used on a full season.
Like I said think outside the box what can be done to enhance what is already a great product, everything needs to be refreshed or regenerated from time to time, just throwing more prize money into the pot will work but remember the venue also needs to show a profit on the event each week.

I wonder if Garth & Co. are still open to these sorts of ideas?
edit: That was poorly worded, I'm sure they are always open to constructive ideas, but it might be a little late to change next year's structure.

Re: Highlander....ideas??
yep im not having a go at u gundog at all
i just have the opinion that the season needs to be consistent and is why i am against the double points format also
it would be good to see some of those ideas run for a whole season though, maybe the 2k starting stack, its right in the middle of the day so why not try keep the players in the venue for longer

why have different rules, starting stacks, and points for a single venue?
it cant be done... thats like having a single NBL game with 3 point shots being worth 5 or in the EPL getting 6 points for a win instead of 3.
starting stacks, card redemption bonuses and point allocated have to be uniform across the competition
they are asking for ways to promote their venue to get people through the door.
-----------
One thing ive been saying for ages is for all the venues in an area to combine together for an advertisement in the Messenger newspaper.
Get 3 or 4 venues to combine for an ad so you all can promote your night of poker and whatever prizes you offer.
The Messenger is only area specific so it would suit for people in that area. It doesn't have to be flashy or anything, you just need to get your name out in the neighbourhood.
----------
Another idea to support the regulars, is to have a raffle for everyone who plays a certain amount of games at the venue during the season. Make requirements that you must play 7 of 9 games, and you can have the draw on the 10th week. I'm sure you could get your local Jim Beam rep to give you some prizes for 2nd or 3rd prizes as well.

Re: Highlander....ideas??
I think Gun Dog's idea about the pre buy drinks is a must.....if I play at Pooraka I pre buy my four beers or scotches and get stamped up....then I can drink them throughout the day.....the barperson just needs to keep a list of names and drinks left on their list....I agree with everyone that the Highlander on a Sunday afternoon is a great venue...upstairs, away from TAB and distractions....just poker....I like the bounty idea.......even if you're one of the first players out, you might still get $2 for knocking someone out.....

Since the new manager has come on board i can already see that there has been a change in attitude by the venues management. he straight away fixed the stamping system up for pints of beer back to 2 stamps instead on the 1 they were giving out.
He has been looking for ideas to improve the venue. keep the ideas coming guys, if u don't speak up now then the venue won't know what u guys want.

Re: Highlander....ideas??
It's a great venue. Some really fantastic people play there (especially Cruella and me) Sunday afternoon is the best time, quiet and separate from the crowds. I'll be coming back if it returns to Sunday and I know lots of others will too!
Glad to hear that management want the poker players there!!!
