Re: ashes tour 2009
I don't know why Symonds would be fighting for the all-rounder spot. Going by the Hadyen rule, he should not be playing at all.

I think he needs to earn his spot back when he's not injured.
Symo got a walk back into the side with no form, and what happened. I also think he won't play in England, i didn't name him.
Too many free rides into the national side, playing on name and not results

Symonds wasn't dropped for form to start with.
Bit hard to drop them for non-form issues, then use form as a reason *not* to pick him.

Re: ashes tour 2009
Symonds In Brisbane
3rd highest score in 1st innings
3rd highest score in 2nd innings
And he failed in Adelaide.
Bit harsh.
Seriously... we're looking at 2 games against New Zealand which we won 2-0.
We can't really speak out until a decent 4 game series against Sth Africa.
The biggest issue is of a spinner imo.

Re: ashes tour 2009
we got trounced in India, but aside from that, we have been thrashihg pretty much everyone..
the series against south africa, 3 tests here and 3 in SA will be a real test and show where we are at.
symonds hasn't really done much in the last 2 tests, but he has still done enough to keep his place - for the time being - watson is sure breathing down his neck.
if hayden doesn't make runs against SA, i reckon he is gone - jaques to come back in.
sms campaign to get him back in the side?
unfortunately for tait, i dont think they will play again in the same team in a test match. not for a while anyway. at the moment, tait is being used in very short spells, and so he cant bowl many overs in a day. especially now that we done have a spinner that we can rely on to take 4/100 in 40 overs, i doubt he will play until lee retires/gets dropped, and he might even be pigeon holed as a one day player
brice mcgain will get picked when he is fit again, and wrist spinners are usually more attacking than finger spinners which is what australia need.
stuart clark had a bad series in india, because he is just a bit above medium pace, and relies on accuracy and seam. they were scoring at 2 an over off him, but he just didnt take wickets. having said that, he is still ranked no3 in the world at the moment, so he will be there for a while to come
so here is my team
Katich
Jaques
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
Symonds
Haddin
Lee
Johnson
Clark
McGain/WARNE!!!!
Men in Squad
Watson
Tait
Krezja
Chris Rogers

Klinger should be at least considered

Re: ashes tour 2009
Saying Klinger should be considered, doesn't equate to "Hayden's a hack, he's past it, get Klinger in the team"
Klinger has had a brilliant start to this Sheffield Shield season, averaging almost a hundred. But it's only been a handful of games. He'll need another twelve months of consistency before his name is mentioned as seriously as the other three or four test bat hopefuls.
