STRADDLERS!!!

Postby JohnDLC81 » Fri Jan 18, 2008 11:37 am

SHOULD STRADDLING BE BANNED IN TOURNAMENT PLAY? SOME DONT KNOW WHY THEY DO IT? AND IN ONE INSTANCE, THEY TAKE SOME OF THEIR CHIPS BACK AFTER THEY SEEN THEY HAVE BAD CARDS WHEN THEY STRADDLE AND ARGUE THAT IT WASNT NECESSARY..ONCE THE CHIPS ARE IN..YOU ARE IN, SO NO NEED TO MUCK THE CARDS WHEN YOU DECIDE TO STRADDLE!!!

High Stakes Poker. Gotta love it.

Straddling is used in cash games to drive a pot and to generate a bit of action. See also Kill Bet. The general purpose for it is in games, which have huge stacks (400BB+) and low blinds. E.g $1000 in a PL game at 1/2. So your bets would be SB $1 BB $2 Straddle $4 Double Straddle $8.

There is no such thing as a straddle in tournaments, its just a plain old simple bet in the dark, and if the person under the gun is stupid enough to put chips out. Then they are stuck with that bet as it is in turn and binding, even without the cards being dealt out. Unless they take it back before the first cut or first card being dealt. Not too certain which one it is.

Love the people that show off how many poker shows that they have watched. :-).

Brett.

It's not straddling in tournament play, it's just a bet in the dark.
But I would like to add that once those chips hit the felt your in the hand, I strongly suggest pointing out to your TD any player retracting any or part of any bet. This is in complete disregard of the rules.

Straddling can't be banned, if I'm playing on a tight table and I want to loosen everyone up I will generally start raising from UTG in the dark or from any position for that matter.

to those who have played at the casino, you all know about the ring. To those who havent there is an inner ring marked on the tables, your chips stay behind the inner ring, any chips that move into the ring are considered part of the pot.

It is all players responsibility to protect their chips and if they decide to bet in the dark thats their bad luck if they dont like their hands. We dont have an inner ring on our tables but any chips that have been pushed forward towards the pot will be considered part of the pot.

what about dealing the river card twice? is that allowed haha

like brett said, i think someone has been watching too much high stakes poker, however it is addictive, i used up my internet quota in 1 week watching that
