NPL heads-up championship???

Postby maccatak11 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 5:41 pm

Now we have had teams events and deepstack events which have been massively successful in the past.

However i was thinking, what other events different to the above could be done? I think it would be difficult to have a mixed-game tournament as the general poker piblics knowledge of other games besides no-limit holdem would be fairly low.

What about a heads up championship? Could it happen? What kind of format would/could/should be used? What would be the positives and negatives of such an idea?

Our waikeire car pool chatted about this on the way to the teams event on sunday, and i think it could be done.

What are people's thoughts on this?

the problem with heads up is that there is SOOOOO much dealing - it would take forever, unless it was online.

yeah thats true. i guess there would have to be a balance between start stack, blind structure and entrants. obviously deepstack like numbers would be very hard, but its an interesting topic to talk about, and i like your idea of setting it up online somewhere. hmm...

Novelty style. All in or fold.

Best of 5. :-).

As for heads up, would take too long. A six max might be a bit more interesting, people learning to play shorthanded.

We already did a heads up tourney on here? I think we used prize club, and Des organised it - from memory tho, actually organising times for matches was more difficult than it sounded.

See here for thread viewtopic.php?p=3748

Good fun tho, and I'd be in it again (so long as it happens before november 30, or after jan 15 :D)

HEADS UP FTWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.

Its easily my favourite game, and I'd gather to say my best (best ROI). I would LOVE to see something like this in NPL, but I don't see it happening. As has been mentioned in other threads, ever since Garth left the SA Managers role ideas from the forum don't seem to be implemented, which is a huge shame.

Anyway, if we don't do something like this for NPL, can we get another HU championship going through the forum? :D

The only real problem with the last one was you guys were completely rubbish at organising your matches :P

Can't see anyone else bothering to put the time in given the last performance.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

pick a venue.....say Pooraka FC

pick a date...next year.... thinking Sunday arvo ...BBQ food central location

use the ' Forum hosted Heads UP invitational championship " as a draw card... either as a warmup or wind down crowd drawer or holder... to the venues regular suggested afternoon game

invitational = must be known /invited/signed in by a Forum participant.

need the cooperation /approval of NPL and its off duty staff... venue management etc

format suggestion.....

entrants playoff as per a listing sheet winners progresses to a finals playoff.

losers can play losers into a repocharge final

ultimate winner = Loser repocharge vs winners playoff = The Champ..

felixible enough for those who miss out can move off to other activities.

celebritiy dealers .. best out of three games 1000 chips..

easy as pie "n" chips......

cheers-- beers

;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

nb I have a three player "teams headup challenge format excel speadsheated ---On line games..

i.e eight teams of three players . ie each player plays the three players of the other team in three games heads up.

The team that
wins the most games progresses to play the next three members of a winning team till the play off Final where the three individual members of the the finals team play each other.. 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 3vs3.

winning team declared. [ could also have the finals players play off to decided the league grand champion player...

can also play a format designed player vs player [three games winner..

I'm prepared to act as statistic/entrants cordinattor //.. create a web page blog page to list and give access to players record results. etc. etc

weakness will be
the regular commitment and cooperation to play the games. by the players and a central online venue/ host to make it work...

a draft copy of "On Line Heads up League" as suggested note names and team/ players are facticious and used only as a example previously constructed...

if we are to have a heads up championship, then it would have to be online - it is pretty much impossible otherwise because of the shuffling time required between hands, unless the stacks are like 1000 an the blinds are 8 minutes or something like that.

bruce, probably the prize club software would be the best - you can have private games on there as well.

thirdly, this has been done before, organised by des, and it was hard for people to organise their games

so unless there are strict time limits to when games will be played, it wont work.

next, i dont think team play etc is really necessary - just having a heads up tourney online would be good enough if u wanted to organise it.

so bruce,if you wanted to organise it, then go right ahead, i will definitely play

I love heads up - its a great game. Yeah Bruce, any heads up tourny would have to be online - unless it was a big NPL thing, and we had dealers provided for us.
