Steve,

NPL will still be around in five years time, no doubt. There are plenty of big plans in process, none of which can be declared publicly.

By 2012 NPL will be a completely different competition, with different formats of poker, different tournament formats and structures on offer. Monthly special one off events, possibbly monthly or two month seasons. More prizes on offer.

I also see the market place segregate into two distinct fields of players, recreational who are only after a good time and those who are above average skill that could possibly make a decent living following the pub cash buy in circuit.

I also see a lot more Australians turn to different formats of entertainment over the next 4 years and the majority of them will turn to poker.

Prize money will be increased in competitions, more corporate entities will want to get onboard national competition providers, online poker will absolutely boom and turn into a 100 billion dollar industry. That will trickle down through casino's and into the pub poker market.

I eventually see players playing self dealt tournaments where the prize money is in excess of $100,000 regularly.

I foresee the poker playing public will develop skills and talents that far outstrip current casino grinders as two pub poker leagues remain in the market having crushed all competition, prize money is increased to such an amount that many players continually educate themselves and upskill as the prize pools are so lucrative. The market will demand better serviced tournament with a more relaxed structure. Pubs will suffer as the tournaments become more about the poker than the social aspect of the game - but all of this balances out as you will soon see the Party Poker Hotel, PokerStars gaming house and FullTilt tavern. lol.

I also predict that casino's and online gaming sites will see this Australian market as key and move on this within the next two years.

Overall the next five years promises to be dramatic and huge. The suppliers need to keep up with the market demands and we will see a period of twelve months where the general market will demand more experiences rather than prizes and a better structure to play poker in.

Rebuys?

I don't have an opinion on them one way or the other. I like rebuy tournaments when I'm feeling like playing a laggy game.

I prefer MTT freezeouts most of the time, but if you have the bankroll for it some of those rebuy tournaments are extremely lucrative.

what would be your general strategy in rebuy tourneys?

i think a lot of the time, it is worth taking a race early on in the hope to double or triple up.

but at what point do you start to slow down and tighten up? when you have doubled? tripled?

You cannot play small pot poker in rebuy tourneys generally.

If a rebuy tournament is $11 then I would look at this tourney as a $55 tourney maximum.

I like to play tight for first two levels and get a decent read on my competitors. Play the ones I can, and then look to race as many times as possible, if I am double the average then I will tighten up again.

It all depends on opponent playing styles, tournament format and stack sizes.

After the add on period then I will play ABC MTT poker.

any tips on how to combat this, aside from just not doing it?

I can't be sure.

So how long have I been playing poker for (cash)?

Anzac day 2006 was the first event we went to.

Pokerroom has me listed from 03 as a member on Pokah, but i was playing blackjack and Chinese poker before that.

Don't think you came onto the play money until 2003-2004 when you moved out to Churchill with me.

As for cash, within the last two years, so i am going with 06. there were a few forays into cash online. But i think that was sng's and tournaments. First tournament was i think with Dimos, Trying to remember what i was doing that day. But only came in when they were down to three tables, and you bubbled.

sounds about rightish. Unless there was earlier incidents when you and Erin were travelling down each weekend playing blackjack.

Sept 06 was when we went to Pakenham, April was where the paths went to SA and the Casino, April this year was where my path went to WA.
