Re: Ask Garth!
aaron, the action at the table should usually dictate the cards you play
if there is plenty of PFR, then play tighter because u will get paid when u have a hand.
if everyone is limping, and its gonna be cheap to come in with low suited connectors or even up to QJ, then you can loosen up.
i have won games with 15% and with 45% preflop percentages

Totally agree, I don't think there is a definite answer, play the players not the cards, adapt to how the table is playing. Having said that something around 15% - 25% is probably average I would say. 15% is definitely on the tighter side of things but there is nothing wrong with that when the situation suits. Keep in mind that your % flops seen will be slightly more than your VPIP% since you will get to check some of the time from BB and see the flop without voluntarily putting in to the pot.

Re: Ask Garth!
Yep, it's all relative.
There is no rule that says "you should have <x> stats at <y or z> stage of the tourney".
If you're looking for something general to gauge how you are going, just use average stack size.. if you're above that then it's likely you are in the top 1/3 of the chip count and depending on the blind structure you will have room to move for awhile yet.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Agreed Pete.
I usually find out when the runners are down to 75%, and then know the average stack is 33% more of starting.. 50% makes it double your starting stack, etc etc.

Jack Daniels, plenty of red bull or anything that contains vast quantities of taurine, caffeine and guarana, long work hours and very little in the way of a social life.
I think it's baby steps with the other punters, use deodorant, brush your teeth at least once per week and hair wax or gel is a wonderful thing. After that we can move on to the diet of fast food and consuming unhealthy levels of red bulls in a 24 hour period.

Yeah sorry about that, was saying to Kate how hard it's been not to chime in with some sillyness... and what's she gone and done?
Stolen my fricken line, that's what!
That's one less beer for Kate on Friday.
