Re: Regional and State leaderboards
David, does the slb work the same way in sa as it does in vic ... and why are most people against the slb and say it is not worth anything or doesn't mean anything ...
I am confused, please explain it so I understand... thanks ...Q9

Re: Regional and State leaderboards
Queen, i think what david and others are saying is that the state leaderboard does not find us the best player in the state (as has already been said) and is not a concern for the vast majority of NPL players.
To say that it means nothing is a bit harsh, as a few grand is certainly not nothing, but it means little to most players.
Most people are aginst the state lb as is it kind of an exclusive club, attended by those only with the time and/or money to play 5+ times per week. Most players on this site (me included) are the 1 or 2 games a week players, so for us, it means little.
Hope this clears it up a little. A state leaderboard should be accessible for all players in the state in my opinion.

"PORKY HIT'S FIRST SPOT ON THE LEADER BOARD"
Well we all guessed it could happen and it has. Porky's taken over the lead from Duc and it's gonna be so hard for Duc to get back those hard earned points he made pre "DD" day.
Porky's hit 107.94 with 6 wins and the Duc has only 94.75 with 3 wins to his name. As I said b4 I like em both but it's a hard pill to swallow. GL to em both for making the top ten let alone the top two spots.
I also see Budah, Tracy and Mark holding onto 8th, 9th and 10th positions GL to you guys too and all the others who made top 50..........

Re: Regional and State leaderboards
thanks maccatak ... but just so you know, I did play 50 games in season 2 this year, but the guy who came 8th, played 60 - he had no advantage over me, but in season 3 last year, I only played 43 games and that was a 13 week season (that's what they were before they were shortened) and the person who came 29th on the slb played 54 games - still no advantage.
this season, the person on top of the slb, who has again overtaken poor Pete Minca, has played only 36 games, and the guy who is 9th has played 60 games ... so I am not seeing where the advantage is.
If you play once or twice a week for 10 weeks, you will play 15 games and that will qualify you for the state leaderboard - so it is accessible to a lot more players than they reaslied. taking advatage of it is another as once you play your 15 games, the aim is to replace your lowest scores with higher ones. and that is then your choice. like it is my choice to and try to better my points to get me higher up the slb, and it is also your choice.
I played the amount of games I did cos I love the game, and if there is no poker for me to play, I have gone 3-4 times to another poker league and have home games. but with the drop in prizemoney, and other changes, I won't be playing any more than I have been for the last 2 seasons, which is around twice a week. I have had a really bad season with illness not helping, but I still think with the right luck, I can get back there, will minimal games ... it can be done ... lol ...
this is the last I will say on the slb as I think we have debated it enough and it obviously means more to me than it does to you ... so I don't want us to fight over it ... lol .... except to say ...'go Pete!!!' ...lol.
what's the next topic ...

Re: Regional and State leaderboards
Just out of interest, i checked out the victorian slb. It was really interesting.
In victoria, there were only 4, thats right 4 players who had played more than 50 games this season. And there were plenty of players around the 30 game mark who were right up there. This WOULD mean that the vic lb is accessible to lots of 2-3 game per week players.
It was very interesting to compare this to the south aussie leaderboard.
31 players in the SA top 50 have played more than 50 games so far this season, including 11 players who had played more than 75 games this season (tony bickle heads the list at 104 games).
So i think this is where the confusion lies, in vic, the 30 game player can have a good season and make the top 50, in SA this is almost impossible. Im sure you can see queen that the state lb is not an interest for most players here in SA.
The only players less than 40 games in the top 50 in SA either got points at the parafield big game, or have had a win or 3 in DD.
It was interesting to compare the different regions. I wonder why there are many more mega-gamers in SA and not in other states.
(note: tassy only has 18 venues so that doesnt count. and interestingly, NSW and QLD are run by the old points system that queen has been describing before, i.e. no points per players, just per win)
Question for garth (or anybody elso who knows). I know that NPL in QLD and NSW are essentially different entities to the rest of the country, but why is this the case. What is the reason they run a different points structure? Is the tourney structure the same?
Ill shut up now....

I don't wish to cast dispersion against my colleagues in Sydney but.....
Difference of opinion on what is the ideal competition strucutre, tournament structure is similar although there is a hug disparity between the integrity of the competitions and the professional manner in which they are run. Also a different market now as SA is the baby market, Vic is the middle child and NSW is the older brother who has been to war and lived through many hardships.
