It's an aweomse stadium if you live in the country, is what you maybe really meant to say :P

It does have it's good points, but it needs much more seating and is basically in a prick of a spot.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Ummm, i can count the times we have actually filled it on one hand pete. The only reason we dont get more people there is its prick of a location, not its size.

Yes, that's true.

But they're not about to move it and they're not about to actually do what everyone seems to want and build a stadium in the CBD :)

Adelaide Oval would be fine except for the distance away from the pitch, and the cricket interfering.

I went to last years adelaide oval match, and the viewing was quite good, but not as good as hindmarsh obviously. Yeah i guess the only reason we dont have more games at adelaide oval is that its a bit of a prick for les burdett to turn a cricket pitch into a soccer pitch, and then back into a cricket pitch in a week and a half, which is what he had to do this week.

I think a lot of people go to the adelaide oval games BECAUSE they are a one off novelty, and its an easier opportunity for people who dont go very often to get down and see a game. But using these crowd figures of 20+ thousand as an indication of what regular crowd figures might be like at a new city stadium in dangerous i think.

I dont know of anyone who doesnt go and see the reds just because its at hindmarsh stadium. Yes its not ideal, but a move in stadium will not automatically give us 7 thousand more regular supporters, it will just mean we average 13 thousand at an awesome stadium instead of 12 thousand at a semi-awesome one.

Pete, what are your thoughts on using AAMI for big games. the surface there is exceptional. I know its not up to FIFA international standards because of the hump in the middle of the ground, but does this preclude A-League matches being played there? I know that the pitch would be a fair way away from the stands, but the higher viewing angle from the bigger stands would kind of cancel this out. Interesting though. Id like to see it trialled once or twice.

There's a few reasons why I'd say no to AAMI stadium.

1) It's for Aussie Rules which automatically means the crowd are further away from the pitch than is desireable.

2) The hump in the middle just isn't cricket :P That'd ruin the match IMO.

3) There's talk of it needing an overhaul as it is (can't say I've been there in years though) so that can't bode well.

I think simple things like not being able to easily get a park or not being able to easily catch public transport directly there really do put a lot of people off going. Adelaide Oval has the advantage of being easily accessable and it's not as though everyone in pretty much any metro area can't catch public transport to the city.

Get rid of Victoria Park racecourse (not that the SAJC have anything to do with it anymore) and plonk a massive (multipurpose?) stadium there whilst still allowing for the V8's and I think everyone but the nonces who insist on walking through there in the morning would be happy :)
