A bit of maths for you zack and others
using combination theory, there are 2,598,960 different 5 card poker hands. 4 of these combinations are royal flushes.
so the chances of getting a royal flush are 1 in 649740.
a slight complication is that the above is for a 5 card hand, not the best 5 cards out of 7 cards. so we have to multiply this number by 21, as there are 21 5 card combinations that can be made with 7 cards.
so the actual number is 1 in 30940 hands.
that is the probability of a royal flush, but that doesn't mean that you will get one in that time, or that you wont get more than that.
myself, i have never been dealt a royal, let alone a straight flush in holdem (i have folded one, and been dealt one in omaha but that doesn't count). i reckon i would have easily played in the hundreds of thousands of hands without getting even a straight flush. some people i know have got lots.
