the problem with doing something like that though is that people will FLOCK away from the larger games.
this will piss off pretty much all venues that get more than 50 runners
not really a good idea when these venues pay the most fees to run the tourney

Re: Leaderboards.
How about some sort of number worked out taking into account of total players.
Haven't really looked into it much, so it might not work but:
Score = points scored / total players played against x 100
e.g:
current leader - Robert Britvic - 1546.00 points - 49 games
overall average 31.55
leaderboard average 62.77
played against 2995
average size 61.12 per game
1546 / 2995 * 100 = 51.6193
Emma Alm - 439.80 points - 15 games
overall average 29.32
leaderboard average 29.32
played against 809
average size 53.33 per game
439.80 / 809 * 100 = 54.3634
Victoria Kopetz - 603.10 points - 22 games
overall average 27.41
leaderboard average 36.21
played against 954
average size 43.36 per game
603.10 / 954 * 100 = 63.2180

Re: Leaderboards.
Great topic Garth and one that has been bandied around for quite a while.
The forum is a great sounding board but, unfortunately it's very limitted to only a few people who will take the time to voice their opinions and preference vote.
It's great to see forum users offering their opinions of which I'm sure are of some value. However, I'd be fairly certain it's going to be blocks of 10!!
One would think this would help to encourage the smaller 1 to 2 venue players per week as well as the muti game/venue players making points!!!!

Good point Bob. The forum is great for this sort of stuff, but yeah, a wide survey (pamphlet handed out at states?) would be greeeeeeeeeat. Hard to organise though.

Re: Leaderboards.
Or, given that it's TWO THOUSAND AND NINE, people could get off their rear and get on here for a simple vote.
I can't see how extra effort should need to be put in when everyone already has the means to have their say, and on a wide range of topics to boot.
Garth, average in blocks of 10 beats total points in blocks of 10 IMO because you still get 10 points for showing up so it will add to your total regardless but it would still probably be more detrimental to your average therefore it would seem to better indicate consistency if an average is used.
Would still need to place well at venues/games with large runners to have a decent average.

Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Re: Leaderboards.
we have currently a 10 week season.
using 20 games LLB best points system caters for the masses. - my vote
if you supply [ read split] LB winners either by no of games played [ say more than 3a week ] or by venues [ say 50 players or more] or even dare I say Country vs City. you segregate into a us /them mentalitly.
A State Leader Board represents a combination of the player who plays the most, games , wins the most games against the largest fields on the most consistent at basis.
I hope the new statistic reports being formated will include things like the most wins in a season, highest points scores ---> highest average most games played, size of venues played at, I like the idea of the stat.. no of players played against. and points obtained.
Creation of criteria for the " State LB" and its fairness rests with the administration of the "League" involved for its purposes no matter what sport involved. Garth is involving the players as best he can, this forum represents a committed few with varied opinions .
The average punter will show up as often as they wish , pay as much they need to to enjoy poker as they wish.
The elite will use the LB be it State or Venue as they deem worthy.. . Prizes monies I suggest is also a strong/stronger motivating factor. How many State LB / Venue LB achievers have also cashed the Regional/Venues State finals mulitple times ?.
Splitting the SLB's using any critria seems a bit point less..
Question ?.... Since its inception how many players/who has had multi
places gets in the Top 10 or even top 50 consistently.
A player like Tony Bickle I suggest would rank highly consistently at large venues does this make him a good player or one of the best or is Daniel Booth now the best player in the NPL SA.

Re: Leaderboards.
ok heres a different scenario. feel free to poke holes in it.
Lets have a system where a players PEAK AVERAGE is what counts toward their state leaderboard placing, with a minimum of 20 games to qualify.
So lets say after 20 games, i average 50 points from all games, and then in my 21st game, i win and get a lot of points, and my average goes up to 54. over the next 6 games i dont do so well and my actuall average of all games goes down to 42, but my peak average still remains at 54. This is the value that counts to the state leaderboard.
There is still incentive for me to continue playing the big games to improve my overall average.
there is very strong reasons to play well at every game, not just try and get a big stack or bust (i.e. minimise DNP's). a run of 10 DNP's does not really matter to a mega gamer at the moment - they should be penalised for this imo.
and, it would allow the 20 game player to compete with the 80 game player on the leaderboard.
This system would keep the megagamers happy, the twice a week players happy and the poker-pureists who want to see a fair and just leaderboard happy.
Im sure there will be some problem with this, but i cant see it yet...

Re: Leaderboards.
My view for what its worth, scrap the state leaderboard, it only benefits metro players that have the opportunity to play at the bigger venues which equals bigger points.
The focus should be on regional leaderboards, this creates equality between city and country irrespective of venue numbers.
As for points the best 20 games to qualify for a regional leaderboard.
Give the standard venue points the heave ho and revert to a freeze out points system

42.7 percent of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Re: Leaderboards.
Does the 10 game block avg stop where it is if i stopped playing?
What if i played 25 games in the first 5 weeks, and in my last 10 games i got 3 wins and 7 final tables. Why would i continue playing?
