ONLINE POKER TO BE CENSORED?

Postby SwedishChef » Thu Mar 19, 2009 2:20 pm

Greetings

The proposed Internet Censorship List has been leaked on WikiLeaks.
http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Australian_government_secret_ACMA_internet_censorship_blacklist%2C_6_Aug_2008

What is interesting to see when browsing through the list is that the following sites show up:

pacificpoker.com
partypoker.com
pokerroom.com
hollywoodpoker.com
fulltiltpoker.com
pokerstars.com
absolutepoker.com
paradisepoker.com

Now, I think we can all agree that these sites do not belong on this list.

GetUp! has had a campaign going for a while but please add your name to it. It may not be much but at least it is something. If you wish to contact your MP then please do so.

Perhaps NPL should make an official complaint (possibly even a joint statement). Not sure what everyone can do but we ought to do something...don't you think?

Just wanted to let you guys kow...

that would SUCK

the censorship is the biggest load of crap ever

if they made it an opt in / opt out system, then i think it would be ok

wasn't this meant to stop child porn? pretty sure internet poker isn't child porn, or illegal for that matter

I clicked one link, saw the home page and then decided I didn't want to open anymore.

I think it will take a lot for legislation to be passed banning/filtering these sites from the majority of Australian users.

At the moment these are the sites that the ACMA all OES software suppliers introduce into their filters.

Scary thought; a world without online poker.

And I don't think NPL or APL would have to make any moves, there are plenty of companies on that list who would be fighting tooth and nail to stay off of it, many of them those gambling sites that have invested millions into the southern hemisphere marketing plans.

if online poker sites were worth banning, surely they wouldn't have allowed tv advertising on free to air tv

(stars ads have been running during sports tonight for the last little while)

Interesting comment, I am not going to say too much but suggest you check out some of the legislation regarding advertising online gaming sites vie the medium of television.

Garth: Is that got to do with the .net vs .com version of the site?

All: FYI the .net is play money only... .com is for real and play money

The .net affiliate loophole certainly helps the online sites ;)
