Re: ONLINE POKER TO BE CENSORED?
As most of you know I'm not really computer savvy. But I must say I have learnt quite a bit from you guys.
Personally I wouldn't know how or where to look to find such a site and so I was curious to what was being said in relation to the poker sites being black listed etc.
So, for starters let me say I'm somewhat confused with the link attached to the initial post as I never actually got to look at anything that was poker related.
After I opened the link I clicked on one that was part the way down the page for somewhere to start and to my surprise it was pictures relating to "Child Pornography" I couldn't believe my eyes and closed it straight away.
Apart from being shocked, my thoughts ran wild thinking someone could be monitoring the site and within minutes there would be cops banging on my frigging door!!!! shocked
& confused
I told my son who had just came home about the site and I clicked on another one and it was showing the results of abortions!!!!!!!!!! more shock
& confusion
Is this actually a government site or a hoax site? I suppose it doesn't really matter anyway seeing it's there for all to see. Has anyone else looked at any of the other links on that site besides me?????????
Don't get me wrong I'm not a prude but don't they realise they have actually set up a page where deviates, pedaphiles and other sick bastards can go to find what turns them on in one simple easy to find (well not for me) site such as the one in the first post?
I realise the initial topic was poker related but the site goes a little further than just poker. Is there anything that we can do to censor or black list that particular site??????
PS. If this post needs to be removed or moved to another area that's fine with me. I just thought it was best to say something here where the link is rather than nothing at all. It's really been pestering me for a couple of days now as to whether I should say something or not!

First of all I have to say that I admire your interest in trying to educate yourself about the whole topic at hand.
Secondly, I know that most of the links on the list...the list which was said to be fake only to then be updated and as far as I know is now believed to be the actual list...concern pronography. Some of the links supposedly link to actual child pornography sites while some of the links ae directed at legitimate porn sites.
In the March 18th version of the list it seems all poker related sites have been removed. http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Australian_government_secret_ACMA_internet_censorship_blacklist%2C_18_Mar_2009
What I must point out though is that I find your last statement somewhat disturbing:
What I suggest you do is to read up on the purpose of Wikileaks and the usefulness of it. I can agree that having the links working may have been a bit thoughtless but it is the nature of Wikileaks to do so. They make no exceptions for releasing information.
Wikileaks is quite possibly one of the most useful sites on the Internet because their goal is to provide an honest and transparent World for everyone. Do note though that Steven Conroy "...is considering a range of possible actions..."
http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/Wikileaks_to_Conroy:_Go_after_our_source_and_we_will_go_after_you
Do you really think this is right. Should we shut down websites just because they say things we don't want to hear or show us things that
Governments, Churches or companies have tried to keep from the public?
Surely the Freedom of Speech would weigh far far heavier than any of that?
I realise that in some ways this topic has in fact gone 'off-topic' but I do believe that this is about so much more than 1172 URLs on a Government Blacklist. This involves so much more of our personal freedoms being taken away in the name of 'protecting the public'.
Bob B, please do not think that this is a personal attack on you. This general topic (Freedom of Speech) is something that I would fight for any day. The content of that speech can be dealt with in other ways but I believe that you should never ever deny someone to say what they think. I therefore also believe Wikileaks to be one of the most important sites out there.
Sorry for the rant

Re: ONLINE POKER TO BE CENSORED?
No offence taken by you or you post Chef. I suppose the initial shock of the links I opened were what threw me off balance. I also understand your reasonings being that of free speech and creating an awareness to people such as myself.
I grew up in the Super8, kodak days, so everything I hearing and seeing on the net is a learning curve for me. I guess I should try and understand what wikileaks are all about and expand my knowledge a little further hey????
Maybe they should put a leader saying something like "the following links may be offensive" or something like that, what do you think?
So, where do I find all the good straight porn sites benny the cunt????

Re: ONLINE POKER TO BE CENSORED?
I have to ask Bob....
There was clear mention of a list of sites that have been blacklisted, yet you clicked on one anyway?
You mentioned it yourself, and I completely agree, it's DUMB to even be having a list in the first place.
In fact, it's Joseph Smith Jr dumb.
