Player representative council

After re reading this post, I think many of you are concerned with what happens to the forum and perhaps losing some of your own "voice" if a player's rep council was formed.

The forum would still remain the tool it is today, and will still be used for discussion and raising of points, I also foresee regular contributors to this forum having seats on the rep council.

Marketing this forum to a wider audience? How? 46% of our regular playing members check the npl website once per week, for a total of 2 minutes.

I would like access to almost 100% of player feedback and thoughts and issues, and as sad as I am to say it, this will not be achieved by this forum in the near future.

As to contractors being the first port of call for every issue of players, I quite often hear that the standardised response is "check the website" or "send an email in". I was on a venue run last night, one of our senior contractors (who I have a lot of respect for) could not answer a players questions on when the buy in events were for the NPL champs. Whilst TD's should be the first point of contact for tournament related issues, I do not see many players having an issue at a regular nightly tournament level and not going to a TD with these, those that won't (and there are many that do right now) could discuss it with a player rep, who may be able to notify the TD on the night and fix the problem immediately.

But the player council isn't about fixing these problems or standing in judgement of players. It is about creating a council dedicated to the well being of players, creating a code of conduct for players and ensuring that players are willing to adhere to it. Ensuring NPL continues to listen to the players and remains innovative and adaptable. And most of all to ensure that a balance remains between social, fun poker and cash buy in events. They are there to attend events themselves and continue playing NPL but listen to and discuss with players new ideas and changes and what the majority of players want.

Garth, I was under the impression that NPL already had a diciplinary formula relating to players conduct and guidelines.

I also thought that any diciplinary actions would be governed firstly by the "Contrator" and secondly by NPL management regarding more serious offences or hearings.

For the betterment of the game I'd certainly make the Contrator aware of a problem he may or may not have seen or been aware of and I'm sure others would do the same. But I doubt you would allow me to also distribute the punishment to the offending player.

So, if we were to have a "Players Representative Council" (PRC) similar to that in the AFL, I would have thought that it would be supportive to the players wants, needs and suggestions etc. That way the council would then discuss the topics in question with NPL as the spokes-person/s for the player/s.

To have a PRC also forming a "Tribunal" seems very strange!

How are they able to not only support the player/s in question as their spokes-person and also be on the "Tribunal" punishing them?

I personally believe the NPL still need to be in control of any diciplinary measures handed down to their patrons. It's no different to how a venue operator or any business would do if there were a problem with a patron.

Other than what I've previously written, I really like how the forum works for both sides. If this can be duplicated with a "Players Representative Council" then it should be a big plus for everyone.

I voted for option 3.

Essentially, I just would not trust another player except if I already knew them very well. This is because they are just another player and not someone with any real authority or responsibility. The fact they would still be playing doesn't sit well either.

Any answers that they might be able to give would be coming from those that have always been there to ask in the first place.

I see the main reasons for things not being queried/suggested as:
a) people are just plain lazy.
b) a complaint can often be boiled down to "that sucks because I didn't get my own way".

At this point in time we as players already have available to us:
a) Senior management (who often make themselves available eg: Garth and Tim)
b) TD's at every single venue who let's not forget are getting paid.
c) this forum.


Of perhaps greater benefit is encouraging players with any concerns or suggestions to actually get off their arses and learn to use their voice.
How many players sit there claiming not to know something but you'll find them talking during the TD's intro speech? Or worse, see something and then complain about it privately to their own circle of friends yet do nothing about it.

I support the idea of having a group of people doing the job Garth described (is a good idea and definitely has some merit) but stuffed if I support the thought of them being players.

I really feel that would lose a large slice of the integrity NPL currently offers.
