Just wondering what you would do in this situation:
Your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. As an RAA member, you get to stay in a motel for free. But the motel asks you for $50 per night upfront, and you pay it (cos hey, you need somewhere to stay).
After your car is fixed, you ring the RAA about the $50. They tell you that the motel should never have charged you, and they need to pay the money back.
Do you:
A) Keep calling the RAA, wanting your refund?
B) Ring the motel, and ask for a refund?
C) Ring your local MP, complaining about the RAA's service?
* This is a hypothetical situation, based on a similiar experience at work.
Explain why you would do what you have done!
Cheers... I just wonder if what I would do is the 'unusual' thing.

Re: Am I crazy or what?
Ring the motel, and tell them RAA's policy.
Although... that's not really the motel's fault. Hmm.
I'll get back to you.

Re: Am I crazy or what?
why bother ring the hotel they won't give to shits. if you have any chance of getting ur $50 back it's through RAA.
Do you have your docket from the hotel for the $50?
If you don't your F***** say goodbye to you $50.
if you still have the docket send it to raa with all the dates highlighted.

Re: Am I crazy or what?
The Hotel charges, say.. $100 for a room for the night.
In an ideal situation, you pay nothing, and the RAA pays the $100, correct?
The hotel needs you to pay a $50 deposit on each night. This means you have paid half of the room's cost. The RAA would then pay the remaining $50.
The RAA should then be able to use your receipt, or the word of the hotel, as proof that rather than give $100 to the hotel, they give the hotel $50 and the person $50.
I would also ring up the hotel and politely ask them why the FCK are their policies not matching that of the RAA in this arrangement.

your crazy
Maybe not, what should have transpired here is the RAA should have contacted the facility and booked you in thus billing RAA.
Not all motels have an agreement with RAA for accomadation, if you are arranging your own accomadation then you should have requested a reference number from the RAA, so you can claim back any payments made.
So in the end result take it as a learning experiance and forget about the $50.

I'm going to go with gundog here - RAA don't run the hotel, so you should have had them book the hotel for you, or at least gotten RAA approval for your choice of hotel.gundog wrote:your crazy

Re: Am I crazy or what?
I would ring the RAA.
Obviously they have guidelines set in place with the hotels they are aligned with.
If that doesn't work, I would be on the phone with whatever ombudsman is in charge of that area in 2 seconds flat.
They usually have whatever company shaking in their boots within 2 seconds flat.
