gundog doesn't make sense at all.

There is an arrangement between that motel, and the RAA.
It isn't an ad hoc request from someone who broke down, wanting a room and claiming the RAA will pay for it.

Yeah, the *motel* contacted the RAA - obviously the motel doesn't have an arrangement with the RAA else there would be no need to contact them. What is more, this wasn't mentioned in the OP :D

I would have thought it was protocol for the motel to ring the RAA for confirmation, so that not just anyone with a membership can rock up for a free night.

If it's a motel it's also likely to be part of a motel chain.

So the arrangement would likely be between the RAA and the chain itself, and the motel chain's members/franchisees/whatever would be expected to know about the arrangement and comply with it.

So that would mean that the correct information actually has to filter all the way down to the employees of those motels, and I don't like the chances of that being done successfully - especially given how hard it is to get people to read a bloody computer screen and put down if they have booked accomodation or not :)

Bacon the lack of detail in your origional post created 3 pages of this thread, if you were a little more consice with the details, this entire thread could have been reduced to " YOUR BEEF IS WITH THE RAA" no one else so deal with it.

But would you make ANY attempt to get the money from the motel? Let's assume its not 500km away, but actually within a decent distance?
