Why would you say that every team needs to start with a clean slate?
I can't see the logic behind it?
Anyone else feel this way?
Yes Garth i/we feel the same way
The next round should start fresh with all teams equal and so on
Example
If an AFL team kicks 100pts in round 1 and wins and plays against another team that kicks 60pts and wins they go into the second round equal with 0pts, not with a 40pt headstart
We thought it was a round for round knockout not accumulative

Don`t think it made any differance to the top 3 going through did it after all round 1 leaders didn`t go through
so the two that did must have done well in the second round
and congrats to the team that won not sure i would have played the final table the same way but
SO LONG AS I GET MY 10 POINTS

LOL why always equate a poker tournament structure to a sporting (AFL) competition.
In your example Dave, a team does get to carry there goals kicked for and against with them throughout a season. And if a team does tie for a position what happens then? Generally the for and against is used.
Again I would like to reiterate that poker competitions and NPL will never match up with sporting competitions as the general public know them.
If a team continues to perform consistently then they should be rewarded and being a points based system then it should be noted, that football teams accumulate points based on wins/losses and draws and yes these points do accumulate from round to round. Am I wrong in saying this?
I do not see any sporting competition where you start a new round with no reflection on your previous rounds achievements.
And you thought it was round for round knockout? The structure has been listed on this forum for over two months, and even if you were unsure of the structure why not post or send an email asking for one? Why wait until after the fact to become disgruntled.
Any other points? What other structure would you like to see implemented, do not just criticise offer alternatives or what you would like to see happen.

Another example:
Golf.
I shoot a 69 in the first round (LOL I wish)
I get to carry my 69 shots into the second round, I do not start with a clean slate and get cut if I shoot a 78, thank god for my first round which allowed me to stay below the cut.

Re: Barossa/Gawler show Strength over the City Slickers
Ok Garth ill try another scenerio
TD 8 (your team) is drawn against medium to weak players and your team accumulates maximum points (135pts)
Team B is drawn against good to medium players and accumulates better than average points (103pts)
TD 8 now is up against better players in round 2 but is holding a 32pt advantage due to an easier draw compared to Team B from round 1
Its just a thought ?????

Not a team event but individual.
Whats that Golf Tourney
USA V Internationals
Wood & Co win round 1 with 4/1
A & B win round 1 with 2/1
Round 2 they play A & B and start 0/0
Not 4/2 headstart

The AFL, NRL, A-League etc draws aren't handicapped. About the only sport I know which has handicapped draws is tennis.
And the handicapping is to ensure the top 16 have the best chance to get through to the quarter finals.
Random draws are fine as far as I'm concerned.
