I agree the structure of these tournies is way too agressive. Blinds are not too bad but antes raise way too high too quick
Have you met The Dols?

Agreed.
Especially the later levels, when stacks are usually shorter compared to the blinds. Meaning if you dont catch a hand late in, you're stuffed. If Im already gonna pay $3 fee, I would gladly double that to cover longer tournaments.
And from ealier in the thread, of course if you are going to pay entry into a tournament its about winning money! If u just wanna play for fun, then play the freerolls. If Im gonna pay an entry fee, sure I expect the structure to be less of a crapshoot than the std 888PL freerolls, but its also about the possibility of winning $$$ (and/or the ticket).
And 30 second clock idea (even in the freerolls) is GOLD! TDs wouldnt need to enforce it, players at the table could, and I dont mean someone with a stopwatch, but most ppl can tell approximately 20 seconds then call, '10 seconds or fold' and then count... There is already a rule that players can call 'time', just make that rule a standard...
The main advantage I see in playing one of these rather than a $10 (+ only $1 fee) online tourney is the social factor and the possibility of entry into a bigger tourney. And online has MUCH more relaxed structure, and 15 minute levels online = an hour or more live. + bigger prizepools (sure, and more entrants to get thru).
Or once a fortnight/month take $65 up to the Casino and buyin to a tourney...
Maybe one way to clear up the '$50 ticket to the $5k GTD' confusion would be to refer to these CBI events as 'CBI Satellites to a $5K 'Winners Only' tournament'?
Having said all that, I havent played one yet, cos there isnt one close to where I live.
On that note: any of the Gawler guys willing to billet a player or 2 overnight for the CBI events? from Metro South is a long way to drive, +drinking & driving etc... and I dont even drive atm, so am on the train if I am to come out there to play, which I would like to as there seem to be good players up there!
And to comments about the cost of stamps so the venue can recoup some costs: How many players spend ~$20 to get stamped up, and then another $40+ gettin pissed?!! LOTS... and they wouldnt be there that night if not for the poker. Not to mention the extra they get through increased pokies revenue (part of the NPL 'sell' to venues is that revenue from pokies has been shown to increase on the nights of these events. Awhile ago I enquired about having an NPL event hosted somewhere and the info I got sent emphasized this) So personally I think the venues are doing better than most would think out of the 888PL events.

There is no $3 fee. What would you like to see in terms of blinds/antes? The CBI games already run longer than freerolls. The thing hamstringing us here is Venue opening hours. Most cases we can't add an hour onto the game clock because of that and also players do have to work the next day as well. A midnight finish is not ideal for everyone.
If you don't catch a hand, you're stuffed? It's super turbo pub poker. The CBIs are run under the same constrants. I don't know what everyone was expecting originally in regards to this.

Might I suggest you play one before you pass judgement on the way the game runs?
Dublin - Mondays 6:30 rego
Watermark - Thursdays 6:30 rego
They are the 2 closest games for Metro South players.

Standard antes are 1/10th of the big blind. There is only 1 blind level where the antes are higher than that (2000/4000/500) where the ante is 1/8th. The next blind level offsets that where the ante is 1/12th of the BB.
So your comment of the blind not being too bad but the antes too aggressive doesn't make much sense to me. The only way to have lower antes is have lower blinds.

Re: Cash buy in events to commence in Season 2!
Having read the entire thread, i saw no mention that the $3 'equipment hire' fee was no longer being charged?
I based my agreement about the blind structure, by a) looking at the most recent posts on what is was, and b) from the other comments made in this thread.
I was passing no Judgment on the way theses events were run, infact ive only read good things in this regard, and having played many NPL events (other that weekly games) am sure they are run extremely well.
If opeining hours are what 'hamstrings' you, then I suggest you try for more weekend games that begin much earlier. I played another league $25 deepstack event, where allup players had a $20K (10 + 10 with stamped cards) stack, it started at 1pm and was over by 7pm, with no antes and a much more relaxed structure. Although I cant remember exactly what that structure was in the later levels I will do my best to reprouce it here:
Personally I like a structure that includes antea, and how I would include them is in parenthesis...
25/50
50/100
[maybe a 75/150 here]
100/200
200/400
300/600
400/500
500/1000 (100)
600/1200 (100)
800/1600 (100)
1000/2000 (200)
1500/3000 (200)
2000/4000 (200)
2500/5000 (500)
3000/6000 (500)
4000/8000 (500)
5000/10,000 (1000)
6000/12,000 (1000)
8000/16,000 (1000)
10,000/20,000 (2000)
15,000/30,000 (2000)
20,000/40,000 (2000)
etc
As you said Caleb, it is a super turbo, and just as a midnight finish doesnt appeal to some people, neither does paying to play in a super-turbo...

For example: $10 buy in event + $3 equipment hire fee = $13 in total cost to players.
So this fee is no longer being charged Caleb??

It probably wasnt in this thread but i can with 100% certainty
tell you that this was discussed at length in other threads and garth personally put on this forum that the equipment fee charge would no longer be charged and this was a good month ago.

OK Thanks Krunchie
Would have been helpful if it was posted in this thread... It is the CBI thread?
