Complete Overhaul of Challenge Events

Postby Garth Kay » Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:19 am

Due to the real lack of interest and player feedback we are overhauling our Challenge Away structures and formats.

Please select the options above that represent your feelings on the Challenge games as well as the structures in place.

All constructive feedback/criticism is appreciated as well as any advice you would like to offer.

Areas we are looking to change:

Varied formats and buy ins:
Terminators
Deepstacks
Rebuys
Staff Bounty
Shootouts

Passport value and how many passports should be used at a challenge event.

Guaranteed prize pools.

Live Qualifying Final.

Bonus Live tournament for Qualifying Final winners.

Opening all levels of 888PL competition to direct buy ins (i.e: Qualifying finals and Grand Final) as long as qualification criteria is met.

Major changes to structures with a reduction in ante size and more relaxed blind increases, approx finish time of 11.30pm. Less chips in start stack though.

less chips and more relaxed blinds for a standard game is good

i like the idea of a deeper stack game and a bigger buyin - i.e 25 buyin with a 10K start stack on a weekend.

allowing direct buyins to higher finals is a good idea i think - maybe with a 10 game qualification etc.

events like terminators and shootouts should be left for the championship series and not introduced as a regular game i think.

Can mods and senior forum members also speak to other players who do not frequent this forum and get a feel for their feedback to please?

Semi player council FTW.

Don't have any time this morning to give this a decent post, but I do not like the idea of open direct buy-in to the Grand Final.

Perhaps direct buyin could be open for those who have FT'ed at MEs in the last year, or won special events such as Berri - or even just invites for those who contribute significantly to 888PL. But I do not like the idea of ring-in pros playing these events - a lot of the appeal is that you're playing against those of similar back ground, if that includes pros who regularly contribute to 888PLthat is great, but I'd like to think of the "Grand Final" as being the end point of some sort of qualification.

i agree. maybe to buy in, a player has to be qualified for the dream team leaderboard? i.e 10 away and 5 home games.

I still think that system might be gamed by some pros? Not really too hard for some pro to get wind of it, turn up at a few events so he has a crack at a field of amateurs for a decent payday.

still, you only improve your game by playing against people better than you. and if they are playing 888pl, then i dont see a problem with this at all.

also, imagine how it would lift the profile of the 888pl if pro's made time to play in it?

If they're actually playing regularly, great, but 10 away, 5 home is not a very big bar to jump if you're not playing 888PL, but want to play the GF. I like the significant engagement idea myself.

but I also see your point about profile.

a live super satellite would be a good idea. 25/50 buyin, every 500 bucks adds another seat.

a lot of people are willing to pay this much to play in a live tournament, but not spend that much for a tournament online.
