Xtal's A6 hand: Stevo definitely over thought that hand. Fwiw, he showed me the QQ and I said to someone, "he can't call here." It just felt like a higher overpair. I have never played with xtal, but I get the impression that if she had KK/AA, she would be shoving that flop.

It was a good bet.

I had a front row seat for this hand.

Steve's plan was to check-raise. His thought process when he checked was that she would c-bet if it folded around to her for around 40K, and was going to come over the top.

But she took all the fold equity in the hand by shoving herself. The agony on his face was priceless :)

i was talking to JD about this hand afterwards, and he made a good point

he said for matty, finishing 6th and finishing second from that stage in the tourney is probably the same thing. i think this is definitely true.

so really, its a pretty good spot to take a flip, because you are getting maximum value - if you win that hand, u are uber chip leader, and you are pretty much guaranteed heads up. if you lose, you finish in 6th. which coincidentally is where you ended up anyway.

me and finny were watching you, i instantly said AK. you were snap calling qq+ and snap folding JJ-, so really AK was the only hand you would tank so long with. at the time i said u had to fold, but thinking about it, it was a pretty nice spot to flip if you wanted to win the tourney.

Yeah im thinking the same thing in hindsight, but without an excellent read on the player, i would have been more annoyed if i had given my second placed chip stack to the big stack with my AK into AA. That would have been way more annoying.

You can't make that read often enough for that to be a fold here.

I was very happy with my own play for the entire weekend - until I butchered my last hand.

15 players remain. Blinds 10000/20000/3000.

Action folds around to cut-off, who limps. I squeeze [8c 7c], and complete. First mistake. BB checks.

Pot size: 81K, I have 131K behind. BB has around 180K, cut-off 260K

Flop comes [tc jc 4d]

I lead out for 66K. Second mistake.

BB calls quickly, cut-off calls after a short tank.

Pot size: 279k.

Turn: [3c]

I move my last 65K into the pot. BB moves quickly all-in over the top, and the cut-off folds.

BB: [9c 5c]

And I was out 15th.

Now, I'm well aware the 66K flop bet was a horrible play. If I'm going to be in this hand, I should be shoving there.

But - given relative stack sizes, minimal information on the CO, and a very solid BB player, would you push pre-flop?

My only thought on this is that by this stage, stack sizes dictate there are only two moves post flop - c/f, all-in.

You've got 130k in your stack, and 81 in the pot - what are you folding to on the turn? Take your equity (and your chances) with a push.

But again, this is from the sidelines, where all plays are easy.

Nothing wrong with a limp here.

Def ship here. If that turn isn't a club what are you going to do OOP.

I agree - as I said I butchered the hand on the flop.

i would either be open shoving there on the flop, or i dont mind check-shoving either

I was out shortly after in 14th after pushing over the top of Duncan's 60k raise from UTG. I had K J off, best two cards I'd seen for the last half hour and figured I was either way behind or I was live. He had A 7 clubs which flushed on the river.

I was fairly happy with my game overall though. No real notable match-making hands I can think of, although taking out that older guy with AJ to his AK on Saturday night was pretty sick, a classic Dakota dealt suckout with the 10d on the river completing his straight but also completing my flush :P

Could've played a few hands differently, but then I'm sure we all could've.

Congrats to Steve (7th) and Macca (6th) and Peter Meaney of B&G also representing. Well done xtal too. Nice move against Steve :)
