What NOT to do during a hand....

Postby BigPete33 » Wed Jul 08, 2009 1:44 am

Seeing as this is a hand discussion section, let's discuss the topic of discussing a hand that's in play.

If you do it, you're a complete wanker (at that point in time only, not permanently).

Some of the main reasons why not are:

You have just directly influenced the play, therefore messing with the "one player to a hand" rule.
It's up to the individual players to notice things for themselves and act accordingly.
You might just put my girlfriend on uber tilt so she hits the wrong button and folds (which IS actually pretty funny but you should have heard her go off).

"Everyone does it" is NOT an acceptable reason, because anyone with any respect does NOT do it.
PMS is not the reason that people get annoyed with these things.

I would accept the appropriate ban for clocking the person who does it in a live event, but that's just me and that probably should be frowned upon :P

P.S. I had to make her a cuppa just to calm her the hell down :)

P.P.S That's not entirely true, I did not actually make her a cuppa. She is still cranky.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

I'll give some examples.

The board is [Ks] [Qd] [Jc] [Tc] [x]. Mary bets into 4 players. Shane, not in the hand, chimes in with "who's got the Ace?"

[7c] [7s] [7d] flop. Samuel bets, and the action is on Kevin. Shane looks despondent, and cannot help remarking that "I folded the other 7!"

[8h] [9h] [Th] [Jh] board. Kevin checks, and the action is on Mary. Mary bets. Shane asks her if she "has the Queen of hearts."

If you're not in the hand, please shut the hell up.

Oh wait.....

Get your facts right Pete!
I wasnt the one who made a comment during the hand...
Yes I was at the same table, and made a comment AFTER your GF folded her hand! Maybe had she not folded the best hand she would not have lost it at the table, and apparently in your home.
Well, I suppose she had the best hand after DHouman showed a pair of 8s on a board with both flush AND straight potential. Perhaps him showing the weaker hand also had something to do with her outburst?

I dont comment on hands while they are in play, mostly as a matter of ettiquite, cos if there are 4 cards to a straight on the board, any moron should be able to se that, or a flush, but I still dont comment on it!
I even mention this very thing as something NOT to do in other previous posts...

And why shouldnt I ask someone why they bet into a dry side pot?
It was not during the hand in question....
I should be able ask whatever I want without yours or anyone elses judgement...

My facts are perfectly fine.

You are correct in that it wasn't you that was the instigator. You seem to have neglected that I deliberately didn't mention you, or anyone else by name. Surely that's obvious? :P

Since you included yourself though, comments such as "it was nothing that wasn't obvious" are just downright ridiculous. Of course it's obvious to anyone paying attention. THAT'S THE POINT. If someone isn't paying attention, commenting on the hand HELPS THEM OUT BY BRINGING IT TO THEIR ATTENTION. Surely you can see how if someone misses something then that's their own problem.

Also, the bit about the gf going on uber tilt and hitting the wrong key, whilst true, was her own fault for hitting the wrong key and she knows this. The objection is to dicks commenting on a hand and other dicks sticking up for them as though that's perfectly ok when it's very clearly not even slightly ok.
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

No you just mentioned it quoting/replying to me in a post in another thread, hence including me... That is the only reason i made that post.

Never said i couldnt see why it could be a problem, just meant by that comment in last post that in any semi-decent game that should rarely be an issue, not meant as a justification of talking about a live hand.

I get that, and never said any of it was OK... I didnt realise (how could I) she hit the wrong key by accident, but didnt stick up for anyone, all I said at the time was I thought her reaction little excessive for the circumstance... I made a comment about the flush after she folded and she lost it at me to! I hope your not saying I condoned it and are calling me a dick?

like i said previously... i have also posted in other threads that this is something people should not do during a live hand...

And another thing NOT to do is people gettin abusive in the chat, for WHATEVER reason...
Im not there to be called F@#Kin W@#ker or anything else... or to listen to other players get abused... If somethin I said was takin as condoning chat about a live hand, I don't know.... some of the abuse wasnt directed toward me, although some of it definitley was. I also dont even want to hear (or have to read that) while playing... Its offensive and just as bad as commenting on live hands.

And Des, what does your post mean? can you explain more please?
