PNW Comments about pub poker players

Postby trishan » Tue Jul 14, 2009 6:16 pm

A comment about pub poker players on the Poker Network forums:

"They [pub poker players] are like the people who bang on about how they can always win their footy tipping pool, but they don't BET on it. They are morons either because they over-estimate their ability or because they really can beat the game and aren't making hundreds of thousands (millions?) of dollars off of it."

That appears to be mostly true.

I agree with that statement.

Yep, me to.

Last Saturday at a (non-888PL) CBI event, I asked the table after the first break "Who here considers position while playing?". Everyone but one answered "What?" or "What do you mean, posistion?", other guy said "Position is the most important thing"...
Pretty much says where the average pub player is at I think....

Same as comments like "Dont worry about odds, just play your cards" -last Friday at the Brighton Metro, while a player was clearly calulating odds while deciding if he should call a flop bet
Image ...11.59% of bad beat stories are just misplayed hands ...

some people dont even know how much is in the pot

some other people dont even know what the yellow chips are worth, or think that they get chipped down at breaks because they can't count properly

lol lots of other things that pub players do.

but if they just wanna have fun, and just play cards instead of odds, then fair enough thats their right to do it.

well it is the arena where people come to learn the game

but i must say the same people u see every week still dont know much about the game after about 10 seasons of playing

Personally when I joined I was not sure what to expect. I knew the level of poker wouldn't be phenomenal and initially the poor play became quite evident.

That said I have been pleasantly suprised to find that there is a small group of people (small in comparison to overall numbers) who actually are quite good at poker (many who are on these forums) and who understand the nuances and theory of poker and I find it great to be able to learn and discuss poker with these people.

I've certainly been able to play a lot more hours of poker at a minimal cost which is great when you want to improve your game.

That's also a fair comment trishan.

But I do feel for every TC that has to endure numpties counting their pinks as 1000's and claiming to somehow see that it's been miscounted from where they are standing at the bar.

Agreed. I also don't want to listen to another persons theory on why you should always play K8.
Please note that I am NOT the World Champ, Australian Champ, SA champ or even the Adelaide Hills champ so any advice I give must be taken with tonne of salt :P

I would love to punch them for you, but I fear it will be frowned upon.
