While i get your point, even this cant be considered pure luck...
He still qualified to be in the race...
Right place, right time...

I dont think pure luck really can exist, as that would be something with 0% probability happening...

I agree that Steve did well to qualify but if I remember correctly he admitted that his game plan was to stay back and hope they crashed.

Poker is defined as a game of skill with an element of chance.

The chance factor can definitely be amplified by the tournament structure and your opponents but the fact remains that skill is the predominant deciding factor on how a player performs in all of his tournaments and across the gamut of hands played throughout their career.

So what are we actually discussing in this thread?

The shorter the blind level the more the luck.

Nothing specific.

Just found that info on Billy Baxter to be interesting and thought it might enlighten those who think it's nothing but bingo :)

It's a bit odd that some courts around the world can still see it as luck based but I would assume there is some sort of inadequate and antiquated test that's already in place which had to be used due to no better option available at the time.

the other day, my workmates, who have no idea about poker, said that i was a gambler because i play poker

i replied to them that poker is a game of skill.

the results of an individual hand are definitely luck, because noone knows what the next card out of the deck will be.

but in the long term, skillful decisions about the hands are made. in the long term, skill is the overriding factor.
