Garth Kay wrote:Hi Bob,
Pretty Cynical post mate.
1.) We have doubled the prize pool been offered in SA. For this year alone the minimum prize pool is $500,000 just for SA, more than any other free poker provider offers anywhere.
2.) I have already stated why the payout structure has been changed at State Finals. And FYI after a poll was conducted of several players and throughout VIC and NSW, 80% of players would prefer cash as a prize and correct tournament payout structures.
3.)
More short seasons keeps the "PUNTERS" wanting to be on top. Now, the PUNTER needs to play more and more venues and tourneys to gain more points. This is because the "TOP 50" entry has been reduced from 25 to 15 of you best games.
I'm pretty sure I did the maths right:
last season you needed to play 2.1 games per week over twelve weeks to play the minimum games to qualify for State Leaderboard.
With the new structure it is 1.5 games over ten weeks. How is this requiring "punters" to play more and more venues?
4.) How have we changed the goal posts? The State Finals are still worth $20,000 but are showing are more even, fairer spread now. Prize pool has been distributed in such a way that regional players also get access to a greater portion of it as the majority of regional qualifies cannot or cannot afford the time or money to attend State
Finals. We now have 5 state finals per year worth 20,000 each rather than 4 each (12 week season) worth the same amount.
5.) To the majority of our grass roots players, yes, cash is an easier and more achievable goal for these players. The majority of players do prefer cash more than prizes. Re check your prize figures too please Bob. State Finals is worth 20,000, poker package was worth 10,000.
6.) As previously stated there will still be chances for players to win entry into major Australasian (southern hemisphere) tournaments.
7.) So as a business we are wrong to look to increase profit or make a profit? Or find avenues to increase our profit? Why is this frowned upon by the majority. The more profit made by a company means more dollars in local economy and more staff hired locally.
But in answer to your remark Bob, no we are not putting these practices into place to increase profits or garner bonuses. I do not have any bonuses or schemes set up in my salary, I sacrificed them a long time ago and would rather contribute that money to staff bonuses, freerolls or player education. Money is one of the few things I do not have a problem with or chase more of.
8.) And finally yes we do want all states operating on the same seasonal structure with very similar prizes offered across all states in a true national competition.
Yes Bob, in the end you are wrong. We spend a great deal of time in market research. We do the best we possibly can for our players because without you guys we have no competition. We are offering more now than ever before we have doubled the prize pool on offer in this state and are continually thinking of new prizes and structures to keep the player's interested. There is no cynical campaign to try and fleece you players as much as possible.
Please feel free to keep on debating this. I am interested in everyone's views and setting them right. LOL

Garth, Garth, Garth. I'm some what bemused that you see my post as being cynical. You have obviously looked at my post in a negative rather than a positive manner.
I realise you may be a little upset with the goings on over the last few days but, please don't take everything said as being of a negative nature. By the way please excuse my ignorance but, I have no idea what FYI means.
There wasn't any mention of the overall anual prize money in my post because I was responding to the previous posts. they were relating to and comparing cash prize V holiday/buyin prizes that were on offer in seasons 1 and 2, and as to how or what they would prefer to see.
If you actually read any of my posts I have had nothing but POSITIVE PRAISE for NPL and it's staff. And as I have stated many times on the forum and in conversation off the forum, would be happy with either of the prizes on offer.
A lot of people would not or do not understand the workings of a business. I was purely showing a simple example as to how the funds are raised and distributed. Never seen it as being anything else but that.
As a retired businessman profit has never been a dirty word M8. And as far as bonuses are concerned again, it's never been a dirty word in my career.
I suggest you read my post again and any of my other posts I have actually applauded NPL. Try reading the one directly after your shot at me as that was written before I read either of your posts.
The goal posts....... Have changed in respect of the 25 to 15 qualifying games and made it easier for some of us as we don't have to play a minimum of 25 any more.
Your probably better at the odds and percentages than me so there's a hint

I may be wrong and if so I can live with it.
By my simple observations I see those that are at the top end of the top 50 will need to hit a lot more top table finishes to keep their averages in tact. I may be wrong but again I can't see the negatives in that either.
I started a post a few weeks ago re; "how many games can you play in 18 days" and a couple of guys had already hit the 30's. I think I estimated they should hit around 130 odd games by the end of the season.
M8 if I hit the tables that many times in ten weeks you might be saying something nice about me at my funeral LOL.
Not sure about the wrong thingy Garth but, I did say it's a WIN, WIN, WIN, for all three or did you miss that?
Not everyone reads all of your posts M8. So, some of us were still thinking it wasn't set in concrete. Please scan your eyes over the last few posts on that subject.
Anyway Garth, for what it's worth I enjoyed bringing the best of you out M8. But please don't get stressed over every little thing you read into mine or anyone elses posts.
Here's something to lighten you day M8I had over 80 sales reps working for me in the insurance industy and man that was taxing. If my boss had a bad day, I had a bad day and yes they did too.
So when one of my salesmen got home that nite he kicked the shite out of the family cat that was just sleeping on the floor in front of the telly.
So, tell me Garth, who kicked the cat????? LOL
