Online Games

Postby pundies » Wed Jul 29, 2009 2:38 pm

Just a post regarding the freeroll (foundation) online games........

12pm, 8pm & 11pm

These are not geared for people that work! Can't play the 12pm game - at work, Can't play the 11pm game - need to be in bed to get up to go to work.

This leaves the playable 8pm game........unfortunately often when arriving home from work, I log on to play this and it is full. 150 max!

Suggestions:

- Extend the amount of players to over 150? I don't know why it has to be capped at this amount.

- If you play either of the other timeslots, perhaps have a restriction to not play this one?

- Stop people registering and not playing! When I have managed to get a spot at a table there is often 1 - 2 people who are not there actually playing! If you are not going to play, don't register just for the points!

I feel the online games are really geared @ unemployed, retired, homemaker / work at home people........us working people want to play poker too!! :D
Note to self: Fold Aces on the bubble.......

Pony up and play the challenge events. Playing against 40 people for 2.20. at 8.30pm?

Not to mention the pregame stretch and nightly warm ups are there as well.

Play an away game. As has been discussed, that is why there are only 150 spots!

pundies, most of these issues i agree with - but there isn't much we can do about it really.

it has been capped because 888pl want you to play at the pubs, not sit at home and chase big points for the scoreboard placings.

i dont see how this advantages anyone really.

originally, the registration time for the games was 24 hours. this made it even worse. at present, there is still a lot of dead stacks, even with a 3 hour registration time.

for the 8pm game, what would people think about reducing the registration time further so there is only an hour registration? this way, its pretty much guaranteed that everyone will play it.

the pub or "away" scoreboards are also geared towards people that have the time to play every night of the week - which is usually the type of people you mentioned above. just a fact of life really

edit: as brett said, there are challenge games at 830 that dont fill up. and they are a much better structure than the freeroll anyway

I play my fair share of away games........I just want to be able to play the 'free' online games as well.

Brett - I 'pony up' & play those, I just want more of an opportunity to play against more players. I play the others too, but sometimes there isn't very many people registered, the freeroll is a bit more of a challenge.

benny the cunt - I think the hour registration before the 8pm game would be great. That is about the time I walk in the door!

Bacon - I play more away games than I do home games.

I understand your pain; but playing the 8pm Foundation game can be just as painful ;)

Serious question, playing for points or playing to develop your skills?

I have played both when i was in WA. There is not much of a strategy until over 50% of the field has been knocked out.

Playing the challenge events, improves the skills needed to handle larger stacks. Not playing every hand, trying to make +ev plays. Yes might be a smaller field, but more chances to play poker. Even if the opposition are not standard players. You have to be able to adapt to their play.

Also the cash at the end adds an extra dimension to the strategy, not playing for just points, but also for the dollars.

That's not the case. Apart from the late challenge game, the other online challenge games have just as many don-ks who don't know how many cards there are in a deck let alone what +Ev means...

The same thing happens to me, I get your frustration!

I have managed to get around that... I downloaded 888 Poker onto my work machine but deleted all the shortcuts so it can only be accessed through C Drive, program files, Pacific Poker. I log on just on 5pm and register, then leave to go home! I guess it just comes down to whether you can download it onto your work PC and if you finish at 5pm then it could work... if you finish earlier obviously it won't!

If you can't download it, maybe if you know someone that does register at 5pm and you feel comfortable, give them your login details so they can register you? I've done that for a few people.

Just a couple of ideas, good luck! :D
