ALK, do you know what allegorical and rhetorical mean?
And you just reversed my paraphrashing of how certain comments can be taken...
Please, explain the difference between, "Thinking that way is idiotic" and "You are an idiot to think that way"???

Any one person can have a momentary lapse and produce idiotic thoughts but only an idiot constantly has idiotic thoughts.

Re: Rather Disappointed
Being quite familiar with the English language I worded my post in such a manner so as not to include personal attacks and to make my intent and meaning quite clear to readers who have a reasonable grasp of English.
The reason I used you as an example, maccatak, is that you were the last to insult me in the deep stack on Sunday (there had been several others). I came to the forum where I found a number of posts slinging off at various peoples’ play in a derisive manner, and other posts which have elitist overtones. Then I came across your post about the deep stack and while there’s a typo in your SB player name it’s quite clear who you meant.
In my post I then proceed to discuss the difference in behaviour of people online versus online and, as you listed teacher as your profession, it is quite reasonable to expect a very clear standard of behaviour from you offline; a standard that appears to have lapsed whilst online. There was no insult to you or your profession. There were merely questions posed to direct your thoughts to appropriate behaviours (AJG was on the money). If you believe you have been slighted then please re-read my post objectively.
Had I the time and the inclination I would have named names and cited other examples.
I neither asked for nor expected an apology. I simply posted my observations and expressed my dissappointment. Nothing more, nothing less. From my experience, when one has an expectation of reasonable behaviour disappointment is bound to follow. And that is my mistake.
I have a rather tough skin and over the years I have endured much, but when people start to accept bad behaviour as the norm, then it leads to an inevitable degradation of all standards. I for one am sick and tired of this subtle depreciation of values. (the English language is taking a terrible beating with lazy Americanisms like “exact same” creeping in like a thief in the night)
As I am a celebrated and highly decorated veteran of the Great Flame war of ’95, the Not So Significant Flame War of ’97 and the Totally Awesome Flame War of ’98-99 (and numerous skirmishes in between), I have nothing to prove nor gain from insulting you. So I again ask you re-read my original post with the thought “there is no insult here”. (let me know if I have to resort to Jedi mind tricks).
And, if I might speak for my long eared and buck toothed brethren, I find being publicly belittled does not encourage good behaviour or learning patterns. But as I have expressed many times, I am keen to learn, so I’ll be back. In fact, I’ve already learnt something in my brief foray here. Until I read your post I had no idea what “loose passive” was let alone I am one. Imagine my shock to learn that I’d been classified. Does that mean I can shed my floppy ears and call myself a poker player now?
For your edification, I have never hidden behind the anonymity of the Net. I don’t need to. My name is Peter M Kelly. My online name reflects this and if you were to ask I would gladly give you further contact information should it be required.

BTW Hi Everyone.
This post is compliant with anti-comedy policies of this forum. Although not hurt, 10 clowns were sent mad in the production of this post and will undergo group therapy whilst crammed into a very, very small car.

maccatak11 wrote:this hand happend in the deepstack today.
my stack: 8.5k, on the BB. Both the button and SB have me covered (about 20k each).
blinds are 200/400 and i get
reads on villains. pkml (SB) very loose passive, seeing a lot of flops, and calling raises light, but giving up post flop. other guy, not sure only just sat down.
both the button and SB flat, i raise to 2k, and both call. (so i have a bit over 6k left, pot is also 6k)
Flop comes
SB checks to me.
What are you doing here??
So this is what has annoyed you? I don't get it?
This was a discussion about a specific hand, and nowhere does it insult you or make me elitist in any way?
When i referred to you a ‘loose passive’ this was neither an insult nor being elitist but a statement of my observations (rightly or wrongly) about your style of play during that particular tournament. It is designed to give the other forumer’s some extra information about that situation so they can comment on the particular hand with some background context in mind. So i wasn’t trying to insult you in this post (my comment in the chat box was wrong, and i have apologised for this) it was more a statement of FACT.
pmk wrote: I’m particularly surprised at you maccatak11 as your profile lists you as a teacher. Do you abuse your students and call them retards because they don’t know as much as you? Do you then go back to the teacher’s lounge and use those poor students as a source of amusement for all and sundry? You know (or should) from all your training that this type of behaviour is totally inappropriate. Why should it be any different because you’re online? Do you think the mask of anonymity makes you unaccountable for your actions?
Tell me how this is anything but a personal insult?
Anyway, keep posting on the forums – new contributors are always welcome. Its through discussing the hands that we play that we all continue to learn.

Any player can switch gears at any time to gain a different playing style, so being classified isn't a bad thing.
Sometimes, you get a big stack, and you think "ok, I can play a few more starting hands here", that's loosening up. And if you don't hit, and fold, you are being passive. After doing this for a bit, you decide to tighten up.
Because of the type of play Macca had encountered at that point of play, he considered you Loose Passive... what's not to say, 3 hands earlier you had decided to tighten up, and only play Premium hands... if you had, then you had the upper hand, because your opponent would think you had weaker cards.
Question: Do you consider what your opponent has when playing the hand? It something that took me a year of playing live NPL to gather. Many players (after many games) still only think about what they have.
I'm not perfect. I'm what perfect aspires to become

The relationship between how you were perceived to behave during an online Poker Tournament and forum, and how you would behave whilst performing at your profession, is entirely allegorical.
And each and every question is worded completely rhetorically... (As in, pmk expects your answer would be 'No'???)
I repeat this, as pmk already said this was the case...
None of that is insulting...
Having said that, PMK, the only thing I can see you could have misunderstood and taken badly in maccatak's post you mentioned, and he quoted, is the last line.
He is not asking what YOU are doing here, he is asking 'Forumer's if you were in MY situation, what would you do here?'...
Does that make it any clearer?

Re: Rather Disappointed
I am one of those people who get annoyed at players who call for a significant part of their stack with bottom pair or who bet into a dry pot or who ask you to check a hand down and then bet on the river.
I sometimes (read: most times) do get caught up, in the heat of the moment, in chat box shennanigans (read: crap slinging matches). I expect that if I play like a d.onk as well people will abuse me in the chat box.
Moral of the story is if you have a problem with people abusing you in the chatbox - turn chat off.
