Good post overall Garth, but I'm gonna touch on this bit.

Your success as a poker player/coaching/ease of communication is pretty much the sole reason why am I the poker player I am today. So thank you.

i remember you saying that i was playing like a laggy cash game tard. that stuck with me a bit, and i think i have improved a lot after i stopped and took your advice on board (and got over myself). the results of this help are obvious to me, and probably others as well. i realised that you actually do know what you are talking about, and you were only trying to help.

Do you realise some people actually pay me $50 per hour to make the same comments to them?

LOL.

You were too stubborn and pig headed in the early days benny the cunt, I needed to be harsh to shock you.

Sorry about the lack of response here guys. I’ve been flat out at work with a HEAP of time sensitive jobs and working till 3-4am each day. (and sure as bears use sticky furred wabbits, someone will ring before 9am with some other issue/urgent job).

Anyway, getting back to the topic at hand, I believe my words were chosen carefully enough not to cause any ambiguity. People can read into text many variations according to their own agenda.

Take the simple phrase, “Mary had a little lamb.” How many ways can this be interpreted? Biblically? Mary HAD a little lamb. Wink wink, nudge nudge. Obstetrically? Mary had a little lamb and all the doctors were surprised! Or as an epicurean delight? Mary had a little lamb served with rosemary, mint sauce and a nice Chianti. (yes I know... I stole the line from the movie Silence of the Fava Beans..)

So you see, it’s rather easy to take one or two words out of context and twist them to mean whatever takes your fancy. However, if you resist such spin doctor tendencies then the text is quite clear. AJG understood my intent as did several others (who have not posted).

To re-iterate:
1) I found the level of abusive behaviour on 888PL online games to be abnormal. I’ve only played on Poker Stars, Party Poker & 888. (OK..OK! I’ll admit it... I played Face Book poker. But it was just once I swear! And I didn’t inhale...) And I have NEVER been abused on any of those sites before.
2) I came to the forum and after reading a number of posts the impression I took from SOME of the posters were that they considered themselves elitist. I did not imply, infer or name any names and I specifically excluded ALL 888 staff from that impression.
3) I asked ALLEGORICAL and RHETORICAL questions of maccatak who called me a retard online but who SHOULD have known better because of his profession. The questions were designed to highlight the fact that online does not equal free-for-all and used as an example. It was NOT a personal attack on maccatak.
4) I was disappointed because *I* expected better behaviour from Australians playing competitive poker.

And to prove my point about the level of abuse, my first online game for almost a week there was abusive behaviour between “nplking” & “mindaraisin” despite calls from others to stop they continued with their childish bickering unabashed. (Screen shots attached.)

Just because someone isn’t sitting opposite you in person doesn’t give you the right to behave any differently. Acceptance or partial acceptance (“take it with a grain of salt”, “build a bridge” etc.) of this behaviour should not be allowed online any more than it is in person.

Did we say to Suzi “Suck it up princess” or “take it with a grain of salt” when someone abused and then glassed her? Hell no! So why should it be any different online?

No one can give a valid reason why it should be allowed.

Don’t get me wrong here.... I’m not bagging 888PL. I think it’s great. The whole concept of live & online games and a big tourney etc is fantastic. And a LOT of hard work goes into making it happen. What I am bagging though is the passive acceptance of abusive behaviour. It should, IMHO, be nipped in the bud before it becomes the norm.

Anyway, from up here in my bell tower you all look like ants with torches and pitch forks. Just no one pull on that rope......

Have you reported any chat infringements to 888? (not 888PL but 888 itself)

noone is disputing that chat box abuse occurs, and that it shouldn't

the issues are

1. you say you didn't intend to abuse anyone, yet you singled out one member of the forum, for no good reason. and saying "you should know better because of your profession" is definitely a personal attack, no matter what spin you want to put on it.

2. secondly, physical abuse is much much much much much different to verbal abuse in a chat box.

3. as des said, report people if you dont like it. i was accused of cheating in the chat once (completely out of the blue, never even played with this person before). i copied the chat and sent it to garth. garth then gave this player a warning.

OK... well this is where things fall down. I don't understand how this is a personal attack. Could you explain this please?

Would it have been better to say "You should have known better because you are a human being" ?

bennymacca wrote:2. secondly, physical abuse is much much much much much different to verbal abuse in a chat box.
Yes, But it can be more vexatious or acerbic and can lead to people committing suicide. (Teen girls bullied online etc.)

Yes, or the powers-that-be in 888PL could fire off a few warnings and perhaps suspend a few of the more persistant abusers for periods just to get the message across without resorting to full blown bannings.

mindaraisin is apparently a "good boy" in real life (according to Bob_B). If he is, then all that should happen in the first instance is that he should be told that's not appropriate behaviour and warned.
