My hand from the Terminator Event in Melbourne

Postby Caleb » Thu Aug 06, 2009 7:51 pm

11th hand of the tournament. Blinds 25/50. Start Stack 5000

I'm SB. 11 seat table. Every player limps to me in SB. I squeeze [ad ac]. I raise to 450. Every player folds except for the button.

Player read: None. He's played 1 hand, raising pre-flop to 250 from cut-off, getting 1 caller and c-betting the flop to take it down. Every other hand he has folded pre.

Flop : [jh 10c 2d]

I bet 625. He tanks and raises to 1600.
I tank and call.

Turn : [5s]

I check to him and he goes all in for 3000. I have him covered by 125.
What would you do?

(I'm not asking for advice or criticism on how I played this hand, just what your read is on the limited information you have, what you put him on and whether or not you would/could call.)

All the relevant answers will come after some replies.

This.

Off the table, he clearly has a set here.

He has JJ, 10 10 or 22 and has made a set. Most likely 10 10 or JJ given your 9x raise preflop (which I think is a little much personally though I am quite conservative.)

these days I fold, times past I call.

You're beat here - 3 realistic hands have you done JT/TT/JJ and his story sells any of them.

he has JT for my money tho.

Yeah, Id vote fold, esp so early in and with a still reasonable stack if you do...
Although KK or QQ is equally possible here to, but so early you just cant tell, and i prefer to err on the side of caution early with no reads on how opponents play...
Image ...11.59% of bad beat stories are just misplayed hands ...

looking at it objectively, i think he has a set or 2 pair like everyone else. maybe kings or queens as well, but i think you can find a fold

having said that, if i was playing i prolly would have snap called

edit: what aaron said

what about QQ or KK or possibly even AA?

How did they get forgotten? :) Not likely AA though as I'm assuming you lost.

Some more info though please, how have YOU played so far Caleb?

Have you been playing like a benny the cunt (laggy cash game tard) ? :D
Pardon me, but I think you'll find that's a shovel. See you next Tuesday!

Actually, any other pair as well.

He could just be convinced you don't have anything and were trying to buy it because everybody limped.
