Really bad :(

Postby bennymacca » Fri Feb 08, 2008 3:32 pm

the other night i was playing at the willaston, fine establishment that.

on the BB was dealt [10d] [6c]

flop comes [6s] [6h] [3s]

although wary of the fact that there was two spades out there i check and get a quick check behind me. good i am thinking, no spades.

Turn comes a spade also, cant remember which number.

Worried about the flush, i try to push him off and i bet 500. At this point, before i can even put the chip on the felt, he reraises all in for about 3K.

this got me thinking he had a flush, but i had enough chips to call, and so i did with reluctance, thinking he had a flush.

Before the river, we turned over our cards, and guess what the other bloke had?

[7s]

thats right, nothing but a 7 high flush draw.

sure enough, spade comes out on the river, and my 8K pot goes to him, leaving me with 4K left and out in 14th instead of final table.

needless to say, i wasnt happy at that moment.

Haha I know your pain.
I really can't see what goes through these peoples heads. Why would you push all-in with a 1/10 chance of hitting a flush?(rough odds). And even less chance of taking the pot with four spades out there.
It's unfortunate that you get these people everywhere. Even at the casino... Ah well... All fun and games...

Speaking of checking flopped trips..... Maybe I would have done better trying that instead? But I'm actually fairly happy with the way I played this.

blinds 300/600
UTG, dealt 55 and call the BB. My stack approx 6K
One raise to 1200 (chip leader at table), everyone else folds
I call, maginal, but had been a while since I'd flopped a set from pockets.
Flop comes QJ5 rainbow. Just what I want really.
I bet 1000 into it.
He takes his time, and calls. I put him on AQ/KQ/JQ
turn comes 3, making flush draw, not that I put him on one
I push all in for another 3K.
Takes an age, but calls.
I show my pocket 5s.
He shows his pocket Qs.
No quads for me on the river either. Pot was worth approx 11.5K. nice.

Especially with flush draws. Flush draws scare the hell out of me. A similar example:

Dealt A Q.

Flop: K J 10 (two hearts on board). I bet 300. He raises to 500. I reraise him all in for 2000. After 2 minutes, he finally calls. Turns over K J.

Hit the J on the river :(

I wasn't pleased, I played the hand correctly, just got unlucky.

I doubt checking that flop would have saved you any money. The only thing i would have done differently, is muck the hand pre-flop. Hate those hands in EP.
